RE: Tell Me I'm Wrong: Aston Martin V8 Zagato
Discussion
I actually quite like them - they're also prettier in real-life because they're smaller than photos make them appear.
They're beguiling in the same way Alfa SZs are - they're not objectively pretty but when you see one, it's such a rare and different thing that it catches your attention.
The convertible is heading towards 'skip' territory tho

I'd LOVE to drive one.
But it wouldn't be the first car I'd spend my Euromillions on.
Would it even be in my top 100? (might have to stop at 50 cars if it wasn't a rollover)
Depends what it's like to drive ultimately.
It doesn't look like it would have a rumbly great V8 in it. Looks more like it should have a smaller cc twin-turbo set up. It just looks that sort of car.
I wonder if the two are at odds with each other? On the other hand it might work surprisingly well, like baked beans and mayonnaise.
It raises so many questions the AM V8 Zagato. But does it answer any?

I believe he has owned two. The blue one, which was used in the fil "The tall guy" with jeff Goldbloom, and a red one which was fettled at the factory and sold at auction a while back
Rowan has a thing for cars in RANK colours doesn't he (his F1 is/was flat-burgundy?) - he also appears to own Jimmy Tarbuck's numberplate...That edition of CAR was the most exciting thing I ever read, what happen to the great motor magazine? Evo limps along, CAR's a shadow of its former (great) self. DR was a glimmer of new hope but tragically still born. Drive sort of works with Chris there but its too international. Space for something genuinely new?

U need specsavers.
The design ability of AM over the last toooooo many years .......
They're about as different to each other as the toilets behind them..
Every one looks the same given a new name and a few bits of trim. an air inlet here and there ...
Yes yes I know they're not true a example of the brilliance of recent AM design but they may as well be... as they allllll look the bloody same anyway ….
Yes, now I remember. You're that complete prick who just goes on every single Aston Martin thread to say how similar they look The design ability of AM over the last toooooo many years .......

You don't like the styling (I guess their beauty is too obvious for you?). You have clearly only seen pictures as if you see them next to each other in real life there are vast differences.

Not sure anyone is that brave any more; CAR was reckless but that was the beauty and wonder of it. I still miss it now and I stopped buying it in the early 90's. Have all the 1980's and some 1970's editions though.Pr1964 said:
Personal insult thank you….. I think you know who the real prick is…..
You. After all your repetative, stupid comments on every Aston Martin thread Pr1964 said:

You really need to get down to specsavers.
A new Vanquish next to a Vantage. They don't look similar. I refer you to my previous comment of if you had seen them in the flesh you would realise this. You really need to get down to specsavers.
The fact is they make similar cars (front engined super GTs), they're going to look similar. It's not like with Ferrari who make different styles of cars. Look at Audi etc. The A4 looks like the A6 which looks like the A8.... etc.. and because of that they're instantly recognisable as Audis. Aston's design is similar in concept - the only difference is they don't make a huge range of different models to really differentiate them.
I would have one in my dream collection over any modern era Aston.
It has also not only held its value, but appreciated.
In fact, its looking like a pretty good investment. The even rarer volante version has gone up in value some 30-40% in the last couple of years.
This is a top car, to be driven by eccentric Brits who don't give a hoot about convention. You would never see a footballer driving one.

brand damaging in my view, stick on headlights, bolt on glass canopy , and oh yes need to cover those carbs with a bump which probably took some poor guy in Newport Pagnell 3 weeks to hammer out.
Overblown, overweight copy of Alfa GTV ?
You know, if someone told me that the Urraco, Khamsin and GTV all came from the same pen at a similar time, I'd see their point, even if they did not (I don't think the Urraco is related to the other two). I don't see the resemblance to the Aston Martin Zagato though.Overblown, overweight copy of Alfa GTV ?
On topic, I've always had a soft spot for the Zagato, and I saw that Car test, except it had been published in SA Car, which occasionally printed an article from European or American magazines. The F40 / Countach Anniversary / 959 / Esprit Turbo SE test with Gordon Murray, which appeared in Fast Lane magazine, was another example. Back then, I preferred the Zagato over the 288, particularly after it and then the convertible had appeared in Road and Track's Exotic Cars quarterlies, but nowadays I'd take the 288.
However, the biggest reason I wouldn't have a Zagato is much closer to home: I think it looks great, but I think the standard Vantage looks better.
