Its also about the aerodynamics, its not always about the outdated cliché of bhp per tonne.
... because of course a breadvan Civic is much more aerodynamically efficient than a sleek coupe....mrtwisty said:
Luuuurvly. Seeing more and more of these on the roads and I for one love the styling.
Surprised an EP3 CTR is noticeably quicker in a straight line... isnt the power to weight ratio almost the same?

As a couple of others have said, PtW isn't everything but at 'normal' road speeds, when comparing 'normal' cars, it remains the most useful measure I know of.

I love the idea and concept of the GT86 but hate the styling. The last Celica looked far better.
Really? I thought the last gen Celica looked awkward - very obviously front-drive, horrid overhangs and surfacing that didn't really work for me.If I had to have a Celica, I still have a soft spot for this generation;

Still smart though. The original Celica was best and never really improved upon. The one you like is like a sucked pastille.If I had to have a Celica, I still have a soft spot for this generation;

From here, 1st and 5th generations for me. http://blog.toyota.co.uk/the-toyota-celica-history
I think the GT86 shares more styling cues with the 1st gen Celica than the 7th gen does.
Now that the GT86 has quickly reached its "natural price point" of £20k with leather and sometimes even sat nav (albeit a few months and a few thousand miles down the line) it IS actually good VFM imo and will be worth considering for me in about 18 months time at £15k. I can't wait.

Dunk, is that lowered in some way? It looks a little more 'mean' than the usual BRZ/GT.
I have to admit, having gone off them a bit at launch, mainly due to disinterest from a Toyota dealer, I am now very much back 'on' these. I hope soon to have a bit more cash in my pocket so who knows...?
Nope, totally standard, suspect the ground based shot helpsI have to admit, having gone off them a bit at launch, mainly due to disinterest from a Toyota dealer, I am now very much back 'on' these. I hope soon to have a bit more cash in my pocket so who knows...?

I really like these. In fact think they are fantastic and will certainly be on the radar in a number of years time, once they have done most of their depreciation.
However for this budget I simply couldn't opt for a Toyota, not when you could have something like this:
Mondial T (1993) £21,995

1985 Ferrari Mondial 3.0 Coupe Petrol Manual (1985) £14,995

Ok it might cost a bit more to run, but I'm willing to bet in 5 years time it'll have held on to its money very well, while the Toyota won't have. On this basis alone I suspect 'total cost of ownership' may be rather similar.
Errr... Just one significant mechanical failure and you'll very likely be crying in your beer. However for this budget I simply couldn't opt for a Toyota, not when you could have something like this:

I love the look of these Ferraris but as others have pointed out they're not that fast by today's standards, and the spares will cost an arm and a leg.
20k for this toyota?
Stretch your budget a bit and you could have a LAMBORGHINI:
http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/l...
Or this maserati:
Or this MR2 that is made to look like a Ferrari:
On topic: great car, isn't my colour but it would be deffo be on my short list.
As for 300bhp, should we call some services to have him restrained as I think he went over the edge today. (he was always a bit... you know... but the Ferrari post made me worry)

Or one of these, you might even be able to get one in white for that budget;
