My old man has had a Bongo for a few years now. It's had a few minor niggles over the years but recently an overheating issue has finally sent it to the scrap yard in the sky. It was just good money after bad in the end. He also spent a lot of time chasing the usual Mazda tin worm.

He was very sad to let it go and has struggled for a similar replacement. He has went for a recent import Honda step wagon which is a rather smart looking thing. Loaded with gadgets and will no doubt be the usual run to the end of the earth and back without a single issue Honda fare (hopefully).

MPV, popping in some overhead cupboards & a driveaway awning & we'll see how we get on before converting.
Didn't quite go to plan, so much for "we'll see how we get on before converting"

Had the roof plasti dipped after fitting the home brew solar kit, & fitted a small conversion.

Just the wheels & a respray (arches a little crusty) to go.

Just curious, did you buy the end conversion or did you make it yourself?
We've just bought an unconverted one and I think the end conversion would suit the family best, quite fancy having a stab at making one myself but dont know where to start ?

We used the Tranzwagon unit as a base, they were more than happy to make modifications to their standard unit to my liking.

First proper weekend away this weekend.

Love the tear drop camper, one of them would be ideal for Le Mans!

Be sure to put a wheel clamp on however, otherwise you may wake up in a different field!!!!

Cheers for the tranzwagon info, looks like just what I'm after.
Sent them an enquiry email about their 'compact' with wheel boxes and table.

We had our first trip out this weekend

We have just bought a Bongo Friendee and I can't wait until it is ready to collect, looking forward to camping during the summer holidays.

Wanting one of these more and more.
Was going to the importer in Middlesboro on Sunday, for a look-see, but was delayed. Fortunately we met an old guy in Darlo who had one parked up in Aldi.....
Good saleman he was too!

Just need to sell the TVR first!

You'll enjoy them without doubt. We've had ours for 5 years now and , touch wood, no issues. It's a 2.5 v6 petrol . We only do a couple of thousand miles a year so weren't bothered too much about fuel economy. Wanted auto and 2WD too.
Only slight problem is a bit of bubbling on rear wheel arch (common fault). But sorting that next week.
Insurance £125.00 too and small enough to use on a daily basis

How odd, one of my customers text me tonight saying they had bought a mazda bongo and can I give it the once over.

I had to google it to find out what it was, then this thread appears!

You're doing the kind of thing I've only seen done to sports and other such cars. I applaud your madness.

I want one. Or rather, I want to scratch the itch of a Fiat Multipla. I reaaaaaalllllly do...

I think the 4WD used the B2500 running gear, which I had for a while until it started overheating and couldnt find the cause - even after a new cylinder head.

Still, entertaining thread, my Transit minibus with 6 seats and a table does all I need, there are restaurants and hotels for the rest, as I would never get my wife to sleep in the van!

This. I have a terrible desire to load one up and just disappear across Europe for a few weeks now frown

I love that the spray company is called Tssst. That's the kind of joke name that would get my money. I love Bongos, my aunt and uncle had an "Auto Free Top" pre-facelift one, but it is getting quite tired (rust!) so they got a 2nd one, without the super roof tent.

I like how the little leather cushion footrest behind the front seats flips over and becomes a rearward-facing seat.

I think (but don't quote me) that the tin tops are 2.0m and the lifting roof models are 2.1m.

"Leather", sorry. I'm not 100% sure what it is. But you can see it here.
