Electric rear tailgate? Really?

Ditch all the nav crap, electric tailgate, super massive wheels and thick leather interior and that should save a few kg!
People want these nice things

They look very sexy in the metal. I know cos I have been seeing them around for months. At Christmas staying in Stow on the Wold in the Cotswolds, there was one staying in the same B & B as me (well the Jag stayed in the car park). A couple of weeks later I came across 3 at services on the A36 outside Sailsbury. They looked like press cars - so why are we only getting news of the 'launch' now?

While the F-Type R looks and sounds stupendous (nice video, Chris), I'm quite keen on finding out how the V6S Coupe compares to a well-specced Cayman S/GTS. Undoubtedly such a comparison test will see the light of day soon.

Also curious about the F-Type Coupe's ride quality on British roads. This raves about the car, but this review (from the same paper!) raises a big red flag wrt the ride.

I'll probably get shot for this, but there are two things about the car that others see as its biggest assets, that I don't like.

First the looks. When I look at it from the sides or the rear, I think 'What a gorgeous car, esp. its 'bottom' looks great.' But when I look at it from the front, I'm not impressed. For me the front could also be the front of the newest Mazda. Therefore I don't think it is going to be a classic.

The second thing everybody likes is the noise. And sure, that sharp crackling noise sounds great, but it does it too often and I'm sure it would get annoying very quickly. It's a bit too artificial. Of course this is not a huge problem, another exhaust would 'cure' it.

Don't get me wrong here, I love this car, but with these type of cars you look at the details and you split hairs. It is like with Aston Martins, most af them are great, but I wouldn't want one for one silly reason:

I couldn't live with what it tells you everytime you start it up: Power, Beauty, Soul. I would have to put a sticker on the textscreen and that would completely ruin the interior. ;-)

Anyway, great to see Jaguar making these cars and also great that they are a real alternative to the 911's. Choice is good. :-)

There's a thought... wonder if there's a lighter more track focused special edition in the works?

I'm waiting for this press release:

"Porsche has now applied the steering software from the latest GT3 model to the rest of the Porsche range".

At which point, the motoring press will go all gooey and back to their 911 worship.
At its launch, and as well after launch in several tests, Chris himself said the new 991/911 was great in almost every way. And now he says its a bit "weak now". This is not good journalism, its more like the feeling of the moment. Chris takes advantage of the fact that the audience doesn't remember one review from another, I just wonder if he actually knows that... the 911 is weak now, ok Chris, go back to the wide smiles and wide slides please- that is what your great at. m

As for the video, what i liked about it was the on road review that is where this car will be used and that is what we need to know about.

Pretty much every review of every new car starts by saying how wonderful it is and it's only later in subsequent reviews that the cracks start to appear. This is likely due to them being tested in real world conditions, not some OEM specified route/track in idyllic conditions. Just look at the 4C reviews. Same will happen with this when the next new thing appears.

Quite why anybody puts so much faith in what someone else thinks is beyond me. When it's my hard earned, it's because I like it, not someone else.

European company director drives:

Which of these is the odd one out?

That's why the answer is no.
If you're in Germany or Switzerland every other director drives a 911, so I'm not sure your answer stands up.
Plus, I was asking from a purely performance perspective.

The 991 has been tested more than any other performance car, over and over and again. Other than comment on its so-so steering feel, everything has been super positive. So now, just now, its "weak" says Chris. I'm sure in a few months on some other test Chris will claim the 911 is great again. And BTW I do trust some folks to test cars, in fact I'm a good driver but I know folks like Chris are better than I am ever likely to be. Better drivers should give me insight into what I could possible get out such cars. So no I'm not giving up reading publications like GT Porsche and to a lessor extent evo. m

To be fair for most of us that don't have the razor edge skills of a racing driver both will feel very special to drive. I'd still have the Porsche though.

confused I didn't know there was a four-pot version?

My guess is that the two V6s will, at some point, get manuals. I doubt the V8 ever will.

We first saw an F type at Le man last year and pretty much fell in love with them , 7 months of saving and selling stuff and we bought a lovely V6S , I thought I was going to hate the manual box as that's all I've ever had and feel it's the only thing to have for a sports car !! Well how bloody wrong was I !! The 8 speed auto is brilliant , in manual sports mode it will bang into the limiter without shifting and full throttle shifts are great fun as it cracks and bangs , the blips on the down shift just make you laugh .
The noise it makes is truly Epic and within a week of owning it I had a complaint from my stty neighbour about the reving noise it makes biggrin
Never thought I would own a Jag !!!
