For me I was spending around £80-£90/week on fuel, I calculate that I will be spending around £8-£10/week on electricity - although as I said, I haven't actually noticed this in either electricity bill yet!
So you're saving about £13K over 3 years on fuel, but spent £40K more for the car than it's really worth (compared to an XFR - same market segment).

Sorry, but that still makes no sense to me, and then you have to factor in the extra planning for charging.
It's XJ-size, not XF-size.
Probably sits in between really.
No. It's very big. Outside my house this morning, one neighbour had park d his red Model S alongside another's brand new white (up yuck!) 7 Series. They are the same size.

Both had quite high levels of tire roar but the Merc always suffered from grumbling engine noise and vibration. The start/stop was also very crude and sent shudders through the car.
No reason to doubt that, the diesels are fine at higher speeds but start stop is probably a bit crude.

I just checked the MB website and it appears the S500 is only available in LWB form (the only model available in SWB form is the diesel) at around £90k before options and haggling. Very different proposition to a high end Tesla and probably where my money would go but I regularly do a 300 mile journey in one hit without stopping, so my choice goes back to the what one of the previous posters said about the type of journey one does. Getting 500 miles to the tank is one of the reasons I like my Panamera (that and the great interior and the V8).

New XF is 16mm shorter & 23mm wider, so is more of an XF size.

Tesla is actually 15mm longer than an XF but shorter than an XJ, however the interior is way more roomy as there's no drivetrain intrusion.

The talk of refinement baffles me, no engine & gearbox I've ever experienced is as smooth and seamless as an electric motor with no gears.

The refinement was fantastic.

Is bigger better or more unwieldy and uninvolving....I'm confused?

Refinement goes further than engine & gearbox biggrin

Tesla is 4970mm long
XJ SWB is 5130mm
XJ LWB is 5255mm
XF is 4954mm

So an XF-sized car.

Indeed, noise is probably the single biggest factor in perceived refinement followed by vibration.

A single speed electric motor has to beat any engine on both.

Tesla is 1964mm mirrors folded according to their website
XF is 1987mm mirrors folded.

Agreed, even though boring.

Apologies, I was looking at data for the old model XF.

Zod was saying the Tesla was an XJ-sized. I'm saying it's more an XF sized car.

Yes, I got these 2 mixed up, I think you can understand why, I corrected it but you quoted me before that ...

For daily commute use, in stop start traffic or congested A roads, I'd say ideal.

I agree I'll not be taking mine out for a weekend hoon, but neither would I any other saloon or SUV.

Rather off-topic, but you wouldn't think the old and new XF's were anywhere near that difference in length!
I genuinely didn't know there was an old and new one!

I consider myself "into" cars but it worries me that this one has passed me by...
Please tell me it just a headlight update not a whole new car?
I can forgive myself for missing that much!

Those two are pre- and post- facelift mk1s. There is also a mk2 which is an "all new" model.
