Where on earth do all you people live for this st to be happening? I've got an older S3 and I can't even remember what street its parked in as I never really drive it, never had any issue with it, nor do I expect one. And I do not live in a particularly amazing place.
I wonder the same thing! I can only assume it's either London or up north - which raises two points:

If you can afford a nice car and to live in london, you can afford proper secure parking

...and who would live up north?!?

I had an Audi stolen whilst I was renting in SW London but the property was very exposed - suspect one of the dodgy neighbours a few houses away was involved - car ended up in a showroom half way up the M1. My own fault as I got a bit complacent and left my keys at home one night. But in my previous properties around London never worried about having 2 cars each <20k on the driveway - no burglar alarms or anything. I would probably sleep well with an S- but probably not an RS- on the drive.

Good luck with your pillow against someone with a knife/hammer, let me know how its works out for you.
I don't think you will have to worry too much about gun-toting Yardies arriving in the Welsh badlands.
I didn't say gun (you even quoted it) its says knife/hammer

First of all OP, really sorry to hear the troubles. I've not had any break ins but any incidents near my place puts me on edge let alone someone trying to get in the front door.

Sadly, if thieves target a car they can go to the extreme of breaking in, threatening you etc. I depends how unlucky you are.

You can either go down the route of leaving the car on the drive, keys by the front door so if they do break in they can help themselves. Less risk to you if they're a nasty bunch.

Alternatively, you can do the opposite and make it as difficult as you possibly can.

CCTV you already have, steering lock, retractable post, block the car in, hide keys etc. That may be enough to deter opportunist thieves looking for an easy target.

I have my CLS parked up on an open driveway under CCTV but fortunately is fairly quiet area. Because I don't use the car often, I cover the car up. That's more for keeping it clean as opposed to theft prevention but even that may be of help.
That and they probably dont want CLS's as they are crap for the purposes they want them for, ok, it goes fast, in a straight line but for carving round a wet town center, down side streets and across fields to escape it would be hopeless. Also, cant see older cars being wanted for exporting like modern SUV's and stuff, which bother with a 10 to 15 grand car when you can get a 60 grand one ?

I don't drive anything paticulary worth stealing, I still leave my keys out in a easy to find place. If they want it that badly as to break into my house looking for the keys, fine. Take it.

It's just the sty society we live in now.

Strange Post.

What is you not knowing someone it has happened to got to do with anything, do you know each and every fast VW/fast Audi owner in your area?

How many of the monthly 10 ish vehicle crimes in your area do you find out about.

I know several people its happened to in and around Weybridge. Always been RS6 and RS4's. Mainly estates but one softop. You don't go looking to steal a nice car in a st area.
I get the impression this thing can happen anywhere to be honest, although it is for the reasons described by many in this thread that i dont park my RS* outside my house, it gets parked on a variety of different streets nearby instead. Theory being that if they really want to steal it they will, but id rather they didn't come into the house to get the keys.

I know many people with performance cars all over the place. Never heard of this stuff, mopeds mugging people of phones and stuff seems more common to me.

Interesting map, though suppose it doesn't really give much detail.

Personally I'd only fit a tracker if the insurance company insisted, or it significantly reduced the cost. To be honest if someone was to steal my car I'd probably rather not have it back (unless it was something particularly rare or unique). Ghost immobilisers are all very well, but what's to stop the scum coming back once the car has been recovered and asking you not so nicely for the code?

Again, personal preference but if I had something high risk then I'd go for uprated locks, cctv, alarm, perhaps security post, but if they got past all that the keys would be left somewhere easy to find. I'd rather they got a move on and fked off pretty quick. Ultimately a car can be replaced...
The thing is ghost immobilisor has no obvious means.
The car just doesn't start.
What's for you to say "I don't know why the fking car won't start!!! fk off!" they'll soon leave.

Short of locking cars away in underground vaults there's not much you can do.
Certainly it is not as much of an issue as it appears. Just as someone says no-one will go on Facebook crying over a 12 year old Peugeot 307....

Always shocks me how many people on the internet think some of these things will stop them.
Buy a dog. They kill it.
Fit visual deterrents like bollards. They'll just make you unlock them whilst threatening you.
Blackjax. They'll get half way down the road and come back if they want it bad enough.
CCTV/Lights etc. They wear hoodies/hats etc.

I agree with making it harder etc but surely people realise if they want your car bad enough, this st will just piss them off.

I'd definitely not let them have the keys etc by default but there's no way in hell if they come into my house with weapons, i'd try to stop them.

I'd be trying to protect the house more than the car. Secure doors all round, better locks on windows, protective film on the glass...

I'm in Sutton and I've been followed once by 2 men in a Vauxhall Astra for long enough to know they were following me. Made a hasty getaway wen I had the chance. My neighbour had his Transit Tipper stolen and another neighbour had all the tools stolen from his van.

A friend of mine is very well connected with lots of local performance car owners and he knows of lots of examples locally. For example an attempt on an Audi S5 happened 5 minutes from me, another Golf R was stolen recovered and another went missing from Carshalton Beeches. His friends up North had a Golf R stolen. Another person had an Audi RS* stolen but when they couldn't get it they just smashed it to pieces with bats and tools. I also heard a lady in Epsom was carjacked for her Mercedes.

My local Police force has started sending leaflets round about keyless entry in cars locally, telling us car crime is a problem and to make sure we lock up and keep our keys safe. I don't really see how that works as most of the thefts I read about involve break in for keys.

Clifford Blackjack is the answer

And parking the car in a locked garage so thieves don't know when the car is home.

I had a blackjack on a car I owned previously - it was very effective when we tried it out...the car shuts down when the brake pedal is pressed so typically at the end of the street.
Or the end of the drive at which point they come back into your house even more violent and pissed off.

Blackjax is not half way down the road or at the end of the drive, its a few miles.

Quite. One of these is top of my list for my next daily. I eschewed a Golf R to avoid exactly this sort of nonsense (and the Seat's are cheaper anyway and my first two "quick" cars were sporty Seats). I'd hope that rural Shropshire doesn't attract the same risk!
Depends quite how far you are from A5/M54.

Up the road in Stafford/Cannock area, I know three people with or who've had Audi RS cars and all three of them have had attempted break-ins and one of them had their car (a new RS4) actually stolen within about 2 weeks of delivery. Of the people whose cars were not actually taken, all eventually got rid, especially the couple who had a (then new) V10-engined RS6 where thieves came back i]three[/i] times in the same night, despite the police actually having attended after the first attempt to knock the front door in.

That would be a lot better with "...we call 1911" and a pic of the appropriate Colt...
I don't get it.

Oh, there's a gun called a Colt 1911. Right. In common with, oooh, most people - I didn't know that.
Your ignorance didn't make it less amusing.
I actually have a fully weighted replica 1911, gas powered and shoots plastic pellets. Pretty cool

2nd day i had the golf R i was walking to the car to pick other half up from the station around 11pm and a grey tracksuit with hood up type yoof was walking past, he happened to say to me 'nice cars those golf R's - what you had out of it...' - the car was up to a wall on the drive so he couldn't see the tail pipes and he hadn't even walked past the car yet so had pretty much zero viability of the car and he knew what it was...

remember thinking.. "oh god - it's gonna be gone in the morning.."

Touch wood nothing happened during the 2 years ownership, not even a stolen dustcap (previous cars always seemed to have bits pinched off them, astra VXR they took the bloody plastic roof gutter strips!) and i've had my 66 plate S3 in the same place for just over a year now with not so much as a sneeze on it.

i am in romford, essex which isn't a great area but i don't think we're in Birmingham type car crime league yet.

I live in Cheshire and, whilst we as a family haven't been burgled, thefts do seem to have risen by a large amount in the local area.

My girlfriend told me recently that her local neighbourhood watch Facebook group had reported five stolen Golf Rs / GTIs and Leon Cupras in the past month alone. She doesn't know much about cars and was curious to know why thieves were so interested in what looked like bog standard hatchbacks when there are a countless Porsches and Bentleys rolling about!

Worryingly, her neighbour - a new mum with a 3 month old baby - was assaulted last month by a scumbag who stole iPads/Laptops etc. He entered whilst they were at home, and punched her on his way out of the house. Utter scum. Luckily she's okay, but it's concerning to say the least...
