Because the GTR is not a comparable car to these two, perhaps? Some would argue that the cars in this article are not even in the same 'bracket', but it's even less appropriate to compare a coupe at half the price.Plus you assume 0-60 is the deciding factor when buying either of these two cars. Perhaps in edge cases, but I would argue it doesn't even factor into the purchase decision once you hit the McLaren level.

I was going to ask if that's was a serious question or stirring this up but I see you have a GTR.For me, 0-60 times would never be the deciding factor when choosing one car over another.
So in your case, do you have GTR primarily because it's 0-60 times? No wind up, just genuine interest.

Until the 718 having a flat 6 across the board in the Cayster/911 didn't bother anyone. How ironic that the flat 4 has upset a lot of folk.

No idea. Porsche used the Mezger engine is many over cars over decades and it is a considered a plus point. The McLaren's engine is a genuine motorsport derived unit first used in the incredible Nissan R390 GT1 car. I guess the issue is they didn't make it noisy or characterful enough in the early days; people have let that taint their opinion.

Oh blah blah... GT-R... Come on, there is clue in the title, until Nissan decide to produce a drop-top GT-R both the Spider and Spyder have a huge advantage over the aged Nissan.
If the 0-60 sprint is everything to you, then compare factory coupe versions and then both the McLaren and the Audi are noticeably faster over 0-60, and yes you can go after-market and turn up the wick but you're not comparing like for like again there are you.

Have to agree mate - they'll sell you a smaller emptier back box for a few grand mind! The noise is far more important than the 0-60 time - ask ANY 10yr old kid ;-) Mine gives me absolute goosebumps - priceless!The Surveyor said:

McLaren for me - I love Lotus and a good many of the reviews suggest it has Lotus like handling and feel. I struggle with the looks a bit but that's personal. If it's a kinda Lotus supercar, well bonus. Agree also that if I'm buying a supercar the brand is important - "what's your new car?" 'an Audi."
If you then have to go on and explain it's the expensive/sporty one, well...

I second that, very well written article Nic. Creative, fresh, good grammar, correct use of commas. In terms of the content, I thought you did well explaining the depths and feel of both cars, and giving a decent review of the enjoyment of both on the open road.I think it's a nice read and not the usual trite, simplified, repetitive prose. He's being original at least and I for one rather enjoyed it!

For me, the spec of the cars both come under £175k with the Audi slightly cheaper. I would give the McLaren carbon-fibre overshoot a miss. However, someone mentioned that Audi is possible to get much cheaper on Drive the Deal.
I think overall, I would take the McLaren since it nearly has all basis covered as a supercar, just not the sound - but it seems so good at everything else that this would be a worthy sacrifice. But that Audi V10 engine is such a masterpiece.

I wouldn't buy the Audi, not because it's an Audi but because I think it just doesn't look good. The styling doesn't work for me but I wouldn't criticises anyone for buying one.
