I recall a leaked BMW doc stating new Z4 would have B58 and ZF8, same as an M140i.

That is 1475kg, 340ps, does 0-60 in 4.6 (auto) - so I'd assume similar.

Ok 3.8s to 60mph from a car with only 340bhp, im less than convinced!

Also how have they managed to only get 340bhp from a 3L 6 cylinder!?

It appears to be a standard BMW lump. Not the most highly-tuned of units.

That bodes well for the tuners, and those wishing to put their own stamp on their car.
Similar to the MkIV's over-engineered lump - which provided plenty scope to ramp up the output from the stock block.

Seems a bit low on power when mundane German saloons happily exceed 350bhp, and the indicated weight is too much. Its likely to have difficulty competing with Alfa and Alpine as a sports car, or even the Boxter S. And where is the soft top version?
