Doesn't matter what you call them. Revolution is coming..

Model 3 the top selling car in California second half of 2018, outselling civic, camry, accord, corrola etc. This before the cheaper ones are available.

Oblivious to the brand haemorrhaging money and all the dealers closing down. 60% downturn and $800M losses yearly. Revolution rofl

Truth is they’re the Betamax already

this photo is of just one battery cell (like a large torch battery) exploding.

imagine the energy of a full tesla battery pack going up (many hundreds of these individual cells).

link to short video, includes local fire brigade trying to put the fire out (it would not go out)

They will still have the service centres, just have a few salesmen there and a few demos. I am sure 99% of people would rather get a saving off a new car rather than buying it from a massive showroom with expensive coffe followed by some horrendous handover ceromony they can then but on their #insta (I feel sick typing that word)

versus all cars sold by Mercedes Benz and all cars sold by BMW, and so on

if you dismiss this US chart, google a look at Europe total year figures 2018

and see also SUVs, where, although Tesla is not on top, it enjoys significant volume

if you believe that Tesla -- and, crucially, Tesla conquest buyers -- are a sort of minor event, you may be on to tin foil hat territory

I wouldn't call Tesla a Luxury brand.
Indeed they're all premium brands.

A luxury brand has to be British for some reason.

When’s the last time a petrol engine spontaneously combusted? Never happened to me?

The Tesla battery pictured didn't spontaneously combust either.

Vauxhall/Opel, BMW, Nissan, Hyundai, Renault, Jaguar and Kia all have EV's you can buy and get serviced in their dealer networks.
How many of those are in the right segment though? The market globally is heavily SUV focused so Jag is really the only one (and it sort of isn’t an SUV). BMW have a weird city car and a supercar!

I’m thinking of cars like the Merc EQC - an EV SUV from an established player. Different enough to stand out and demonstrate your “green” credentials, but is also backed up with an established ownership experience.

I’m not saying Tesla aren’t being successful with sales.

But something to bear in mind if BMW released the new 3 series sold if for 2 years but didn’t actually deliver any cars. Creating a massive back log of orders then all of a sudden started the factory flat out delivering cars there sales figures would look pretty good as well.

Time will tell if the orders keep coming sustainably. The amount of rumours hanging around about loads of stock isn’t a good indicator though.

Just for the record although I haven’t enjoyed my Tesla I hope the company continues and builds on what they have. If in 10 years time the build quality is better and the range more predictable with faster charging I would consider going back.

Why didn't you enjoy your Tesla? What model do you have and what will you be changing to?

287,000 vehicle fires a year in the USA alone, averaging 31 per hour.

https://www.nfpa.org/News-and-Research/Data-resear...

Fires aren’t a new thing. EV fires will need to be dealt with in a new way, but then so will fires from hydrogen fuel cells. Change and adapt.

I have said on quite a few other threads so I don’t want to sound like a broken record.

I do a lot of long journeys for work and holidays. I also like to drive fairly fast. This means I have spent a lot of the last 3.5 years looking at car parks. Some are okay with this stuff but I find it annoying not being able to go the route I want and sometimes having to go out of my way to go look at a car park for 45 minutes.

Journeys being affected by rain, cold and wind makes me feel like I have entered into the dark ages in some ways. For example drove back from Austria in January only took me 9 charges to liege of 30-60 minutes driving at 80-90. Mainly because it was cold and windy.

Then there is the smaller stuff like build quality. Service and dealership experience that have done there best to make me hate them. The touchscreen that looks fantastic but I get the impression the system is designed on an iPad with consideration you might want to use it while driving!!!

The latest update this week was a romance fire eater egg, A game to play and a prank to play on non EV people. Surely that money would have been better spent getting the door handles to fit so they don’t fail or getting your phone to sink properly. Especially when you are posting huge loses.

There are loads of other litre things like only one 12v socket and it’s in the front.

I have a Model S 70d my Dad has a 90d we swap for longer journeys. I am receiving my RRS p400e in May hoping to go to work on EV but drive normally for long journeys.

I should add all of these things are things that I personally don’t like lots of others are totally fine with them. There is still a lot to like just not enough for me personally. It’s not a bad car by any means just not a good one for me.

Luxury no, but it's certainly 'premium'. Then again, if those other listed brands are being classed as 'luxury' then I guess Tesla is too by their standards.

What is a luxury brand? It's not something you can define exactly. Just bullst for people to argue over.

People are either willing to buy the car or not.

I don’t say this often Rob but you are absolutely right.

A product is either what you want or it isn’t at the price you think it is worth.
