"In this video. Its all about my Porsche Cayman GT4. I know its been mentioned quite a few times on this channel but it has to be reminded of how good/amazing it really is and why I’m so obsessed. It represents everything I love driving, the noise, engagement and sheer drama that not many Cars come close at this price bracket.
It's really well suited on the road then it is on the track, plus I reckon some manufactures can learn a thing or two about this Car rather than chasing lap times.
To me I think its one of the best drivers Cars ever"

Probably been said already, but this to me is looking like what the 911 of old used to be; good power, size, weight, and performance, and not costing stupid money.
Contrast that with the latest 911 c2, and they'll likely cost a shed load more, and not be as good to drive, along with being somewhat of a blimp. I saw a photo of the latest 911 alongside an early car, and was shocked at just how big they've become.
The 718 GT4 & Spyder do seem good value & is a more UK friendly size compared to the 911; if 1) You can get one, which there seems to be a better chance than last time but we'll have to wait & see on that one, 2) you don't need the rear seats the 911 offers, and 3) you're happy with the current manual only situation (I would be if I were in the market for one).Contrast that with the latest 911 c2, and they'll likely cost a shed load more, and not be as good to drive, along with being somewhat of a blimp. Even if you throw the kitchen sink at a 718, they're under £100K - you can't say that about the 992.
The Spyder is c95% of the 991.2 Speedster for 50% of the price.
Never owned a Porsche and enquired about one today.
My local OPC had an allotment of 2 Cayman GT4's and 3 Spyders. Can confirm. They won't even consider selling one to you if you don't have an existing relationship with that particular OPC and even then, the director gets to choose who can buy one from the list of interested buyers.

So much for being built on the normal production line, a longer run & less restricted. My local OPC had an allotment of 2 Cayman GT4's and 3 Spyders. Can confirm. Would've been my first Porsche too but they weren't at all interested and suggested to keep an eye out on the resale market if I wanted one...Edit - Called another OPC out of curiosity. They had an allotment of 3 GT4's but pretty much said the same thing with it pretty much being impossible acquiring one.

I actually thought the GT4 would make a great daily and one car to do it all. Comfortable, easy to do Euro hoons, decent on a track etc.
But I wasn't using it daily and had these 2 in the garage as well:
This meant that the GT4 never got used for a fun weekend blast in the UK. Actually the Porsche hardly got used at all in the end...
Probably unfair on the thing but as an adrenalin hit on road in the UK, it was absolutely nowhere in comparison. If I had to rate them out of 10 for pure fun on road in the UK, it would be:
Lotus: 9 (my Elise is a bit trick)
Caterham: 8 (points deducted as it is a bit miserable in the wet with an aeroscreen)
GT4: 3
Glad I had it and I truly love Porsches but the GT4 wasn't to be. Lots of admiration for it but zero love.

Less expensive, so less weight saving fancy materials?
Plus the 718 is 30 cms longer and I’d guess easily 20 cms higher. For a two seater it is just, compared to an Exige or an Alpine, a big car. Typical issue German manufacturers have- name one BMW that isn’t overweight. Standard recipe seems to up the power generation after generation. That aside, the Spyder looks tasty and the prices in the UK are a bargain of a lifetime (compared to Germany where they start at 94k EUR).Dale487 said:

This is so stupid...launching a great car, you can not buy. What is the relevance of any review or report about this car when it hits the internet. Zero! It seems that Porsche just loves to create a hype....I would think. Or wants to keep the car flippers as friends. Who are all those flippers who can buy them, but never drive them...Porsche can easily find out. There are already GT4 built slots to buy in Germany for extra cash. Not difficult for Porsche to cancel these sales. Alpine is also a lovely drivers cars and when you order one today you have to wait 9 months...but at least you can order one for the normal price. Even if I have money to spare I would never buy one for more then list price...purely out of principle I would not do this.Edit - Called another OPC out of curiosity. The Spyder in particular looks v nice however if you option these to over 90k with ceramics etc suddenly a used 570S at 100k is in the ballpark, true supercar pedigree outstanding driver engagement and no clowning around with having to brown nose ur local OPC...and I acknowledge the Mclaren will cost more to run but it's in a diff league completely. I know some will say you're comparing used vs new but for me it's valid as when spending that kind of cash all options must be considered. When shopping around last yr I test drove a GT4 and liked it alot...then I tested a V12VS which was up for a small amount of cash more and it was no contest...the Aston was the one for me. Porsche make some v nice cars but they uniformly feel overpriced once you start tacking on the options the new 992 being a prime example. A 718 Spyder nicely optioned at 75k would certainly appeal but at over 90 not so much.
People are talking as if other manufacturers don't do this.
I was in Ferrari the other day and the salesman told me there was one model I could buy new. If wanted anything else I had to buy the car I didn't want, in their preferred spec for them to sell on my behalf with delivery mileage, at which point certain other cars would become available to order (with a 1 year+ waiting list). Alternatively I could buy used.

Completely different car. I had a McLaren and sold it and replaced with a 981 Spyder. There is no substitute for a manual gearbox, NA engine and Mechanical LSD. Its not all about speed & billionaire doors. So for me and many others a McLaren is not an option it really is like wanting an apple and being told an orange is the same. The 570S is a great car but it doesn't have the characteristics I and i would say others want in a car.Bispal said:

The same could not be said of the 570S.

Ok...so the "not being able order a new GT4" issue is a UK thing. I informed with my local Porsche dealer (Belgium) and if I want to order a new GT4 I can do so without any problem. They also don't have a lot of car flippers...most people who bought GT cars in the past...just drove them. The manual GT4 cars get first delivery and the price is the price from the Porsche website...nothing more..nothing less. I already have a M2 and a A110 on order (delivery in two months)...so probably no GT4 order for me at this time... Would be an epic garage M2 + A110 + GT4 Edited by Franzino on Thursday 20th June 10:36

Fair enough if you want a manual a Mclaren ain't the answer but the steering feel and feedback on a 570s is superb and the car really feels best when chasing the revs almost like a N/A unit... But to say you'd take a 981 Cayman over a 570s is hard to take seriously tbh! Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
