Pretty logical really: far, far easier to co-engineer RHD/LHD mid/rear engined cars than front engined cars. Wasn't cost effective in past, but with no engine to try 'swerve' around this time, there's a hell of a lot more space for the necessaries (especially when there are other sizeable RHD markets around the world to exploit.)

And as for those whining on about a 'manual': please, give it a rest already! If you want to be tested by a manual, so you can satisfy your 'driver hipster connected involvement' fantasies, then go get an Evora, Cayman or even a GT86. Oh, that's right...... you won't - just like you wouldn't in reality be in a market for this either if it was a manual.

Always amuses me that the ones who harp on the loudest about wanting their 500+bhp Supercar to have a manual, are the exact ones who will never buy one!

Who's gonna sell them in the UK I wonder? They can't come through the Vauxhall dealer network now.

Why launch it in red though? Makes it nigh on impossible not to think of a Ferrari 488.

Should've launched in Corvette racing yellow!
Surely doing the launch press shots with a "ferrari red" car must have been a deliberate move!
conquest buyers

General Motors are deadly serious about pulling a respectable number of shoppers and buyers from traditional European marques. (that's not their only objective, but it is important)

The colour of the "signature car" at the launch event was no coincidence. Neither was the scheduling: 11:00pm on the East Coast of the US -- when people with money are likely to be asleep! -- but... mid-day on Friday in Beijing and Shanghai.

And while each of us here probably knows somebody who would snicker at the idea of cross-shopping a General Motors car with one from Maranello (I have in mind just now a particular English chap), those people are almost non-existent in some parts of the world.

while I have said at 65k I would find a way to buy one at 80 to 85k I just cant, the manual thing is not an issue for me but I would point out the 911R, 911 GT3 touring etc cars that have circa 500bhp and are manual. So clearly there is a demand. If I could afford one (911 GT3) I would proably get the DSG as I doubt I am that great a driver but if I bought a 911C2 I would look for a manual.

Course I can't afford either so your point still stands but I do think there is a manual market its just smaller an smaller as time goes on

the mid-engined format

the lack of a manual transmission

the cost

these things about the C8 now more or less guarantee that enthusiasts will embrace the C7 and the C6 for many more years to come (don't wrestle me to the ground because I failed to mention the C5)

there are literally tens of thousands of these cars about -- most of them with low miles; there is a massive aftermarket of affordable upgrades

really a winning situation for all involved, whether buying new or used

Your points are perfectly valid, but just for a moment have a think about who was buying the R and Touring? Even just having a quick look on PH Classifieds, and the cheapest GT3 Manual for sale is a 2017 with only 2100 miles. The next cheapest is only a grand more, but has only 1869 miles in 2 years. And the miles only get fewer as the prices go up, so so much for satisfying their 'driving god ambitions'! wink

I actually have an old 1989 944S2 Cabriolet in the garage (30th birthday present to myself......... 18 years ago!!!), as well as a 205 1.9 GTi (another dream car from the days when I passed my test), both manual as that was as expected as them actually having steering wheels and tyres - an 'auto' was unimaginable: simply not an option. Both are hilarious in their own ways, but make bugger all power, so you need to work the manual gearbox so as to have something to do while getting from corner to corner (as it takes so damn long!!). Something like this new 'Vette though - and pretty much anything else in it's class or above - you're gonna have enough to be dealing with trying to hit braking points and apexes (just merely keeping it on the road!), than to waste time phaffing around with a stick poking out of the floor. Being able to keep your hands on the wheel, lightning fast shifts at the fingertips - no other option for me if I'm to even attempt to get to even 50% of it's abilities.

Not that I'm in the bloody market for one either - my affordability levels in this respect match yours! Haha! But I think you hit the examples pretty much bang on: GT2/GT3 - give me fingertip control. The more UK friendly powered C2? I think a manual would be perfectly suited.

Pointy, ungainly, ill proportioned and heavy handed.

I love the C7 Z06 (with Z07 kit) and ZR1 but this is a massive missed opportunity.

What a shame.

I'm afraid I'm with Gameface on this one - style exercises are very subjective and to personal taste, but this somehow manages to look ungainly and bloated to me... and at the same time rather generic.

Now the C6 and C7 on the other hand... cloud9

see below from yesterday's thread about the mid-engined C8

in the end, you quipped that you'd withhold comment until after seeing the Shmee review of the C8 rolleyes

lol hehe

go on then: play the role of Scrooge during this sort of motoring Christmas

For everybody else here, it might be fun to see two UK videos about the C6 Z06, each delightful in its own ways.

It’s just like when Aston announced the V8 Vantage, 10 or so years ago. We all hoped and expected it to be around £65-70k iirc.

Boy were a lot of us disappointed smile

I think its best to see one in the flesh before being dismissive, the eye sees things very differently to the camera. It works both ways and some cars which look fabulous in the promo shots look ungainly and poorly proportioned when you see them in the flash (NSK and 992 Porsche for example) and others such as the Lotus Evora and hopefully this which look much less-awful in the wild.

Adding in all of the costs of
Importing, type approval and vat I think the £80k-£100k figure is about the right ballpark for the fully optioned variant. A far cry from $60k though sadly.

Now is there a workaround? Which US state has the lowest sales tax and will you be able to order a RHD car from a US dealer and pick the car up preregistered from there before
Importing it here? ??

If not, just wait for preowned LHD cars to hit the dealer approved market and buy one of those. Save yourself £40k!
