Alpine vs 4c; Now that’s a future classic road test, if ever I saw one.
Come on PH, you know you want to...
There are many such tests in the foreign press, if you can be bothered to run them through google translate, but they all come to pretty much the same conclusion. My buying decision way back in December 2017 was supported by one such test, in the French magazine Sport Auto, who ran an Alpine special comparing the A110, 4C, Elise Cup 250 and 718 Cayman. Whilst you may accuse a French magazine of having a particular bias, they found great virtues in 3 of the 4 cars! A shame really because the 4C looks, and sounds, stunning.

I did see a group test - Alpine won hands down. All the other freestanding 4C tests would lead you to that conclusion. That said early cars were not set up well for UK conditions and the steering was far too darty for bumpy British roads. I must say I haven't driven a 4C, but the tests were so damning that I didn't consider testing it.

That said American tests were much kinder to the 4C.

Yep I have had the Alfaworks suspension fix, and it still moved around a bit.... A lot of fun though and as per most Alfa's it's called character haha :-)

But that will be mid-bass. Will depend on what music you listen to, but a sub wil handle the lower frequencies which otherwise won't be heard/felt.

As the buyer says he lives in a city, so will be stuck in queues a lot, more use than spending £3k on wheels.

But I haven't heard either, and a quick Google doesn't bring up any owners reviews so don't how much better it is.

I have a Legende as a courtesy car while my car is in for service - so some comments.

Not keen on the seats. Probably better for those broad in the beam, but too wide for me and the leather makes the cushions that bit harder. Unconvinced about the subwoofer too. Adds weight but loses accuracy - I prefer the standard Focal system.
On the plus side the steering definitely has more feel than my car and the car is a bit more agile. May be a geo thing or a change Alpine have made. I'm inclined to think geo - my car was perfectly fine at high speed in the worst of the high winds we had recently, so may be set up on the benign side. Must check.
I'm a sucker for the reversing camera with guidelines showing the arc the car is taking.

In Renault Liquid Yellow (i believe this is a liquid wrap too). I understand from the dealer that they were reluctant to offer 'Renault' colours in order to put some distance between the Alpine brand and parent company.

Any idea how much a wrap like that would cost?

We've spent a bit of time comparing seats. The fixed seats on their lowest setting are a tad lower than the adjustable seats (also on lowest setting).

I think with fixed on the lowest setting I can just about get a helmet on and my other half (a bit shorter than me) still has a good view. Apparently height adjustment is a dealer job.

Height adjustment is in theory a dealer job, they told me that they are supposed to replace the bolts every time they change them.

It would pretty simple to do it yourself with torq head and some loctite. I haven’t needed to move mine as I am the only driver but I wouldn’t be driving 150 miles to get it done.
