Is that why the internet is awash with pictures of various pickups with bent chassis inflicted by towing and carrying things?
Because the chassis on those is of shallow vertical section and only boxed in certain places, mostly C section. The traditional Land-Rover chassis is fully boxed and has relatively deep sides.Lester H said:

It's carrying on the discovery look for the LR family look.
I'm not a fan. It looks targeted at the Hale village/Cheshire crowd.
Let's see how many the army order for front line duties.

None.
JLR don’t need to or want to.
Do you still lament the fact that Rolls Royce no longer sell armoured cars to the army too ?

I wonder how the new model will impact on the original defender values
As they have ended up as such different vehicles, I'm not sure it'll impact it much either way tbh.I can't see many people desiring the old one to then switch to this as an alternative or vice versa. It just isn't an alternative. It's a very different type of vehicle.

I can see the appeal - it's the rugged tonka toy thing.
Tonka toy has been mentioned a few times across the different Defender threads. But I don't get it. This new Defender is about the least looking "Tonka toy" 4x4. It looks very urbanised if anything with lots of posing trim. But Tonka toy..... 300bhp/ton said:

I am most disappointed that there is no manual gearbox option.

It's too expensive (as I thought it would be) for us to look at for the farm.
Run a few pickups which can be had new for low £20ks + V, a 2012 and 2015 defender (which have increased in value loads) and just got a Disco 5 commercial for more comfy stuff at £45k + V.
But farms aren't the target market at the end of the day which is understandable, they may as well push for margin.

I suspect many have played about with the online configurator for these.
My word..... that alone would need a month of messing about with just to figure out all the options. And then another month to figure out how to best spec and price one. Seems overly complex yet quite restrictive too. I saw one £60 option... you tick it and the priced jumped by £2000 or something, due to the other items it had to add
In a way it's great that you can have so much choice. But in the used market this will make finding a car pretty hard I suspect unless you aren't then fussed with the spec.

Gone are the days when you had 2x choices... Take it or leave it!! ...

The Jimny has no two options, colour and if you want an automatic.
I also priced up a Wrangler. Apart from selecting the starting model and petrol engine. It was interior and exterior colour and a set of mats. Everything else was already included.
I was not that keen when I saw the first article on PH yesterday, or the day before...I thought I would watch the video and think meh....yet I really like it. I would love to buy one...but finances dont allow currently as Im in the middle of lots of renovations...maybe in a year or two I could consider one. Especially as Ive ruled out owning a Suzuki Jimny due to the stupidly long waiting list...(still)
