RE: Toyota teases new Yaris GR-4

Around €26k list. If we use the S1 as reference point, that started at €30k. But in comparison to the Yaris that is a parts bin special with a posh badge. The good thing is that they need to sell at least 25000 in one year. Not gigantic volume but still enough they hopefully can't go totally mad on the price.
Toyota also have the resources to take the hit as a loss leader, which would be nice.Just had a look at 'How Many Left' and Audi seem to have shifted about 3,000 S1s ... over a 4 year period?
Not seeing where a high demand is coming from in the UK for this at £35k+ but we'll see.

I'm sure they factored in heavy losses / marketing aspect of the car. More I think about it the more it seems total madness . Fantastic!Just had a look at 'How Many Left' and Audi seem to have shifted about 3,000 S1s ... over a 4 year period?

Interesting data point on the S1 -- and agree this will be a (very) niche product at anything over 30k. Especially as they will likely not use the potentially excellent residuals for finance deals...
In an ideal PH world, this needs to be a proper sales flop so they have to give the things away by the end of the first year (to make the 25k target). I doubt it will happen, but who knows for sure...
Watched a couple of the videos of the car driven around the track.
Looks a bit disappointing, it looks fairly nose heavy and it cocks a rear wheel in the air.
Might just be a not very good driver though.

At £30k, I'd certainly be looking at the numbers as a potential buy.... providing the reviews are good!!Interesting data point on the S1 -- and agree this will be a (very) niche product at anything over 30k. It's good you quote AMS for the video, they are hard to get really excited about anything that does not come with a German badge . Looks a bit disappointing, it looks fairly nose heavy and it cocks a rear wheel in the air.

You are certainly more qualified to draw conclusion from vids than I am. Weight distribution of a super mini is probably the only thing they can't really solve (at halfway sensible costs)?
But I'm still optimistic -- even if it isn't as sharp OOTB there will be after market solutions for those that want more. TG actually found it a bit boring. Which for me at least isn't bad news at all. I'd want one as a replacement for a Mk7 GTI. Really like how the thing can fade in the background if one is not up for it.
A 4wd rally special is not a track car. My evo 6, and 8 RS was understeering on a dry track on long corners also.
This car is for the twisty’s on a wet surface or go drive on a icy lake there you wil have massive fun.
But if you want track car stay away from 4wd because it s mostly understeery.

Stupid question probably, but way I read it homologation requires 25k bases model and 2.5k homologation spec cars to be sold (over 12 month).
Toyota want to use the GR4 as base model so they have all the nice bits from the body shell in the racer. Would it make sense to derive something more extreme from the GR4 in a future 2.5k run? Or is the body shell all they need because the regs have enough freedom?

Looks like the journalists in Japan had a bit more access to the car. No idea how close to finished product it is. No frills, simple dials, real handbrake, dark headlining. I like. And is that a water reservoir for an intercooler spray next to the battery?

Geometry setups will have a massive effect on handling, if setting up for specifically 50/50 4wd on track you might want to adjust geometry/track to suit this more.

It understeers far less than my Megane R26 which is a trackday favourite.
