(Not) Chris Harris Crashed (Not) Harry Metcalfs Lambo Diablo
Discussion
As others have said, 500bhp in an old car shouldn’t be taken lightly.
Just because many on here might drive 400-500bhp cars without binning it, doesn’t mean to say driving an old Lambo is the same.
I’ve driven a C63 at Brooklands including the low friction circuit. Despite 500bhp, I found a c63 is easy to control when it starts to slide. I’ve also driven various 911s at The Porsche experience centre at Silverstone and can confirm that on a Kickplate, I struggled controlling a 993 whereas a 991 was easy even with traction control off. Short wheelbase, old suspension design and tyres makes a remarkable difference at just 20mph

Exactly right. These old supercars had power well over what everything else could handle. Not to mention no filter with the controls. he just ran out of talent, and the Diablo was likely the most challenging of the three.Just because many on here might drive 400-500bhp cars without binning it, doesn’t mean to say driving an old Lambo is the same.

Doesn't Paddy McGuiness own a BMW 1M? Pretty sure Harris posted pic of him arriving with it last year. The 1M is a spiky car.
Does amuse me that just because he is TV host that keyboard warrior driving Gods here assume he is talentless as everything else.
He just binned a Diablo, and yes, I’d put myself up against Mr unfunny shouty man. People assume because a no talent ‘funny’ host is on Top Gear he can drive. Does amuse me that just because he is TV host that keyboard warrior driving Gods here assume he is talentless as everything else.
Everyone seems to be focusing on the fact the car got out of shape quickly and how it wasn’t his fault as no one could have saved it etc.
The reality is the crash was caused well before this moment based on the speed and position chosen on the road and it was 100% driver error.
I strongly suspect the car had only been driven a few miles and the tires were stone cold, possibly old rubber. Likewise he was chatting to camera and not really reading the road despite looking at it (which seemed to have adverse camber).
Add in he likely has zero experience of analogue rear engined supercars, especially arse heavy dinosaurs like the Lambo, and it’s a near tedious inevitability.
I don’t dislike the man but that is the reality of the situation. A more experienced driver would have processed the above and driven more respectfully

Harris, McGuiness, Hammond ect ect, these are all people no different to anyone else and yet so many seem too look up to them for some reason. If they were driving Astras no one would bat an eyelid..
They are on TV, on a very popular motoring programme and get to drive all manner of stuff. Not sure its looking up to them but I quite enjoy watching the entertainment programme that is nominally about cars, quite a few on here seem so obsessed with their relative driving prowess, they got the gig and you didnt.
They can all drive, whether they are talented drivers is hard to say, but there is a lot more to that job than driving.
Most of it with driving is having the opportunity to practice, the compulsion to do so and the funds to indulge it. There is a reason motorsport is mainly wealthy white males, not just innate talent, so much of it is about having the opportunity. There are sixty six odd million people in this country, a very small percentage do any kind of motorsport, and even smaller percentage are successful in terms of results, but most I guess, enjoy it.
Fact is that properly trained with a decent budget, pretty much anyone can be reasonably quick. No reason why Top Gear presenters cant be skilled drivers, they are getting, after all loads of practice.

Paddy used to drive a Ferrari pan America too so I bet that he has owned other pokey motors. Also, driving lots of cars that are press fleet, free tyres and a friendly test track with a stig and Harris means you would get a lot of experience quickly.Does amuse me that just because he is TV host that keyboard warrior driving Gods here assume he is talentless as everything else.
