The Range Rover Sport is a great feat of engineering as it's so diverse, I don't know of a car that will do the below:

Climb a 40-45 degree incline - I'd be on my hands and knees trying to get up and down this !

Lap the Nurburgring in under 9 minutes - LR Promo Videos

It's obviously all a matter of opinion (and taste) and I stand by what I said earlier that people are perfectly entitled to buy and drive whatever they want without being unduly criticised.

BUT ..... you knew there was a 'but' coming on didn't you (!)......... I think the Range Rover Sport (in my humble opinion) is one of the most uncool vehicles on the planet.

Big as a small house, boxy, in your face, conspicuous consumption, blingy, drug dealer/posh school run image ..... does not add up to 'cool'.

I feel much better now!

soapbox
Hear, hear! too blinkin' well right old chum.
The problem is there are too many people on here who have spent a barrow load of readies on these monsters only to read here that they really are an image no-no! If you're going to make a statement with your £60k, do it properly ladies. whistle Touch paper well and truly lit, tin hat on, getting under desk....
OMFG!

I really didn't know that people had a problem with the RRS before I wasted my money buying one. Not sure I can handle the shame/embarressment now. What must my Family/Friends think of me?

If I try and sell or trade it in for something you think is cool, do you think I will be able to get any money for it?
Or should I just ring around a few scrap dealers and see if they will take it off my hands if I give them £100.

What car should I look to replace it with that you think would be cool. I obviously value your opinion on which car I drive very highly.
I know, I know, it's ok, don't worry, this happens all the time, that feeling in the pit of your stomach when you suddenly realise you've made a terrible mistake. It's shared by many RRS owners the world over. I think there's a support group in South Ken somewhere.

Come on, you have to laugh. I think this is a marmite car that's all.

This morning, walking past the Charterhouse Square School near Smithfields I counted 7, that's right, 7 huge 4x4's. An RRS (rather appropriately) two X5's, A Volvo XC90, a stupid blimin great Q7 (just plain ridiculous) and two large M class (I think) Mercs - this is what must change in my bigoted, selfish narrow minded, green party lunatic mind, I mean world preservation, who needs it hey, just as long as Rupert gets to school without being run over by someone else's huge 4x4. OMG, please wake up and smell the coffee people.
4x4's are proven safer in the event of a crash. Why wouldnt you want that if the sole purpose of it is to ferry your kids about?

Thanks for the confirmation, should I buy an RR Classic then?

Isn't that the name for the original RR launched back in 1970.

Not sure I could drive a car older than say three/four years.

I am in a quandry now, if I want to be cool I have to drive a car that's not got airbags, esp, abs and other safety equipment now standard on modern cars.

Won't a car that old keep breaking down though?

Because that statement is the crassest form of saying you don't give a sh*t about the lives of people you hit as long as you and your family survive.

The mk1 RR is probably the coolest (indeed one of the coolest cars of all time). In this context I meant the standard RR however. I think someone earlier in the thread nicknamed it the "classic" to differentiate it from the sport. My tongue is of course firmly in my cheek, knowing how subjects like "coolness" always create such furore on this site! But good fun to debate. smile

The name of the Range Rover in 1970 was the Range Rover. It wasn't even very luxurious by today's standards and was widely used by farmers for the purpose it was intended, shock, horror. Mind you, farmers then were very well off IIRC.

Weird.

What's also weird is that there don't appear to be any used dark green Supercharged Sports for sale.

Yes, I drive my family around in a car held together by rust and elastic bands on the basis that I can take the moral highground when they all get killed crashing into a RR. You know it makes sense. wink

The locals here in Dubai will have it up to 8,000hp within a week.

I was in a 997 GT3 not too long ago on a freeway with a Nissan Patrol behind me. As soon as we cleared traffic I floored it in 3rd and was sailed past by the Patrol with turbos whistling a way.

No idea what it was putting out but the GT3 was flat out and was passed easily! Unfortunately, there were no corners.

Blimey eek I'd love an LSE, maybe next time?

Other than the generally wafty nature of my car I love it's noise. This morning I picked up RacingPete for work and he was out before I had beeped...he had heard 'a V8' come down the road and knew it would be me smokin

And there was nothing wrong with it. I was young, impressionable, and wanted an X5. Words now fail me....

Didn't realise that LR produced any RRS in dark green.

Have I now also been misled by Land Rover over colours available?

As I will be starting legal proceedings against LR on the grounds they told me the RRS was the coolest car ever, they didn't tell me to check on here first. Think this should be covered under the Trades Description Act, or Unfair Trading Rules. I may as well add the withholding of dark green as a colour option to the legal process.

Right Update For You All On My Uncool Car Predicament

I have been discussing with a couple of Dealers my options, so far it's this:

A 2003 Nissan Micra FSH, 12mths Mot & Tax. Only thing is the RRS doesn't cover the cost, will have to stump up £3K.

A 2001 Subaru WRX something or other, he said I won't need to tax it as most owners of this year don't bother. But he will throw in a Pitbull and a tracksuit.

But on reading some of the other posts about safety in accidents, should I really just buy a bike that way I won't upset anyone?
Or am I being naive on the whole safety issue?

Or being naive on the worrying if anyone else thinks my car is cool or not.
Tongue now firmly not in cheek - where it's been for the last couple of hours.

Suppose it would be worse if people had no opinion of it, like a Lexus.
Say what you like about the RRS. I'm not asking you to drive it or like it.

As long as you enjoy driving whatever your choice of car is.
