I have saved 7kg overall, so I reckon over time car, I’ll save a considerable of petrol to recuperate some of the cost.
The finest example of man maths ever...it wont save anything remotely tangible

Try strapping 7kg on your back for a day bounce

If I weighed 1100kg, I suspect I'd do larger turds than that!

You will have to go to the moon and back before you see any fuel saving back from a 7kg weight loss!
Yup, might as well skip breakfast and drive naked for all the difference it will make. biggrin

you could put 7kgs on a belt, tight around your waist quite easily.
put it high up by your shoulders and away from your back in the rucsac and you'll definitely feel it as the miles pile up.
i learnt this empirically rofl

I’ve heard this all before rolleyes, I use to design titanium racing frames, and build them into bicycles, so aerodynamics and weight reduction is breed into me.

“I’m sorry officer. Yes I am, indeed, naked but you see I also skipped breakfast in an effort to reduce the weight of my car”
“Ooh your hands are cold. Are you sure you are a real police officer?”

Doesn't stop it being true. Sure a half kilo might well be difference between winning and coming second if you are Chris Froome - but not for the rest of us. Likewise in an F1 car 7kg (or less) might easily be the difference between 1st and 2nd on the grid. As a matter of principle less weight is obviously a good thing, but unless you are the sort of guy who never fills his tank up fmore than a quarter full because of its effect on performance.....

7kg off a 1.1 tonne car is like saving a few grammes off a bicycle, great, but you are unlikely to notice the difference, it certainly won't pay for itself in saved fuel!

But the carbon roof does look good. I would have been tempted to spec it.

Yes, they can look very good when it contrasts with a light colour.

I thought it might be of interest. This is my previous car, its bike powered with a six speed sequential gearbox with paddles and flat shifting, and a five stage traction control with launch control. It would out accelerate, brake, and corner most Porsche road cars on the track. It weighed 395kg and produced 180BHP I think that’s about 480BHP per ton. It’s all down to its low weight and very low centre of gravity. Now I wonder how many will understand it and how many will make a joke about it, but as they say, the proof of the pudding is in the eating.

Yes that’s right, it’s a k40 with modification, not the old brick engine.

Add two lads with heavy jackets etc and its 600kg and down to 300bhp per ton wink

Still, lightness FTW.

And the Alpine is fairly unique because what in essence is functionally a modern GT car, has never been so light.

AFAIK

That’s another example of how we like different things, or even the same things for different reasons. I love those scorpions, but not for their performance, I like the quirky-ness of single back wheel.

What attracted you to that over a more conventional 7 type car?

Add the missing wheel and it's another 150kgs.

Because, I suppose I have the ability to think and do things out side of the box, however it can be challenging dealing with people who think inside the box.
