This is why, when you find a good 'un, you keep hold of it, and then go and buy another more risky one and maybe another - the more sheds you have the more chance you'll have that at least one will be working. Usually the good 'un.

I'm gonna be hanging on to my £750 Honda Accord for as long as possible - I might even treat it to its first wash in the 2 years of trouble free ownership.

Oh, and give the good 'un a name, like station car or tip car - this way it helps justify multiple vehicular purchases to one's self and to the missus.

Not enjoying shedding today. Front discs and pads and a rear caliper etc. going on today. Needs new tyres soon too.

I probably should have just moved it on but if I get another 12 months out of it then the bill won't seem so bad I guess.
Indeed. It's difficult to know when to continue and when to get rid.
Surely those are just consumables?

If looking to chop it then I guess it only makes sense if the next one has just had brand new brakes and tyres. Which if you’re buying another shed, it won’t.

I have no objections to replacing consumables on the shed. Every car needs these on a rolling basis to keep it motoring.

The only time I’d call time for stuff like this is if it’s already limping along carrying multiple injuries that are going to fail the next MOT. But if I’m honest I’ve never run a shed that sheddy, won’t feel safe / reliable enough for me.

I agree totally here. New tyres and brake pads/discs dont make sense as a reason to change cars - what if the replacement has something much worse?

You will almost certainly have to replace them fairly soon on the next cheap car anyway

That's okay for the money isn't it? I've no need of it, already have a 4.2 Rangey and the last thing I need is a Jag for less than £800.

You are assuming that I'd replace my shed with another cheap car. I'm undecided at the moment and my budget fluctuates between 1 and 20k, or even a lease, on a weekly basis.

I understand your point though and that's why I wasn't too upset to pay the bill (haven'td8ne the tyres yet). The rest of the car is mechanically sound, body work tatty but who cares and front subframe crusty. It'll be the subframe that kills it.

Fair point, I just worked with the thread context!

I'm similar to you. My shed is a great car, but I sometimes would like something nicer. I'm not sure what'll kill it in the end, it's showing no signs of death. I think eventually I'll just fancy something new and keep it because it's not worth getting rid. The small amount of money I'd get is worth less to me than the reliability and usefulness of the car
