Silverstone (GP) is another track I need to try.
I was surprised how good it is. I used to love the old circuit.

Fancy bringing the GT3 and I'll bring the Caterham some time? Last week was my first time on track for around 18 months (excluding a few laps in a VX220 at Brands one evening) and its reminded me how much fun it is so I'd be up for another day later this year!!

Apologies for a numpty question, but is the seller's claim correct that the pre-2001 cars are more robust engine-wise?

A nice 996 might be just the job...

Oh and I test-drove an R56 Mini Cooper S yesterday - I'd forgotten how well they hang on around corners. Most endearing.

Thanks! It's a pity they start at the equaivalent of £20k out here, but if there's not quite such a strong background fear of a mega-bill for an engine rebuild somewhere down the road then it becomes a much more appealing prospect.

Interesting, or not, how whilst Pork and Italian marques have been soaring, that the Audi R8 has remained in a fairly steady decline down to about £40k.

I often wonder whether this is the definitive everyday supercar. But then you consider the lack of heritage relative to the aforementioned and question its merits. Then you counter that with thoughts of original NSX; Everyone has to start somewhere.

I like the zingy bent eight and the warm glow perceived reliability. I still can't come to terms with the styling and the pastiche effects such as the open gate gearshift.

Then I come to the internal conversation about whether it's worth double an RS4 Avant, which would probably do 85% of the tricks, 100% of the time, and then offers true practicality to boot (bad-um-tish)....

Tempted but not tempted

IMO the R8 has never quite been special enough.

Brilliant car, just lacks the pizzazz of a Porsche or something Italian.

I was looking at NSX prices last night... Sweet Jesus!

£100k for the fixed light, face lift cars. Wowzers.

I think that's pushing it. However, given the prices of comparitors, I would have to say, regrettably, they're worth it.

Yeah, I did ask myself why I was so surprised at Type-Rs being £200k+ when Porsches of the RS variety seem to be going for multiples.

I swiftly moved onto looking at McL 12Cs for the money though!

R8 needs to be the V10 variety if anything. But then you might as well get a Gallardo. biggrin

I think of an R8 being more special than most Porsches.

Exactly.

Even then, a Gallardo is a bit more exciting.

For me, as time goes by, I find an R8 more desirable than when they came out.

Not driven a V8 but have driven a V10 and it was very nice, could certainly see the appeal as a very useable 'supercar' day to day.

If the C4S is the comparitor, they appear to be in the range of 30-45k. Not soaring, but certainly not naff all.
