The school run car show
Discussion
At my prep school (90's) there would be the usual suspects, old Volvo's, Range Rovers, Mercs etc. Then there was the kids turning up in classics, the best being the one who turned up in either of of his fathers two D-Type's. The brother and sister being dropped off by their father in his helicopter was always an entertaining start to the morning..
On a sepetare note, my old boss used to pick up his daughters from boarding school in his 1929 4 1/2 ltr blower Bentley, now that I love.

Nothing like that up north at my school
I think the flashiest thing in the car park was on of my friends, Johnny Cocker, dads rides ( Johnny Cocker who drives with Lord Paul Drayson with the barwell aston martin lot). I think I seen a 996 Porsche of some description, whatever the latest evo of the time was and then an R34 GTR
My mate phil's dad had a Audi Cabriolet exactly like the one Lady Di drove.... absolutely timeless car.

This, chauffeur driven of course if anyone asks who your dad is, just tell them he is either :- (a) Jaykay or (b) Blofeld. Old money none of this ostentatious Maybach rubbish.
For the budget end, perhaps a stretched princess or Carlton, there is something about the stretch limo, even if it is st !For my ultimate transport to school,
Gentlemen, I give you the 1959 Caddillac Miller Meteor Endloader Ambulance combination, more commonly known as Ecto 1 or the Ghostbusters Ambulance.
My primary school years (1990's) I went to school in one of these (it was a 3.0litre in purple) -
My secondary school years I went to school in one of these -
My mum is into her cars But the cars she had didn't even get a glance from the other mums not compared to the mum who had the latest plate MPV, Their loss
My dad used to take me to school on one of these -

Our local school bans cars within a good 500m radius which is how it should be.
Obviously parents there can't afford flash cars as they don't sell drugs...
out of interest, how? Do they have a deal with the council to double-yellow everything?Obviously parents there can't afford flash cars as they don't sell drugs...
Chap I knew got picked up in one of these a couple of times.
His Dad was CO of the squadron or similar; they used to fly one over for the cadets to look over every now and then. He used to fly his kids (who was obviously senior in the cadets) back with him.

Artic-spec Sea King, looks like that pic's at Yeovilton. I used to work on the ol' flying Transit vans. His Dad was CO of the squadron or similar; they used to fly one over for the cadets to look over every now and then. He used to fly his kids (who was obviously senior in the cadets) back with him.

We were down in the South West, so it was probably from Yeovilton (did they have helis at Lyneham or Brize?)
I'm sure someone will be along to correct me soon, but Lyneham and Brize mainly consisted of the support fleet - Hercs, Tri-stars and the other big thing that I've forgotten the name of.There were two arctic Sea Kings at YVL when I worked down there, I think one wasn't a UK heli. Yeovilton is the traditional helicopter base, housing a good few squadrons of Lynx helos, as well as Sea Kings and a couple of Hawk trainer aircraft.

How can banning cars near a school work? Do the teachers have to park in the next town and walk as well? You've got to let the kids see traffic eventually or else they dont learn how to cross a road.
How odd.
My daughter is dropped off on one of these (with rear child seat, and pedals...):
The other parents have the usual selection of Range Rovers (how much do those things cost on lease?), other 4x4s, SUVs and MPVs ...usually parked on double yellows and 'keep clear' zones, with some shocking manoeuvring.

my dad used to drop us off (only in severe rain) in one of these with orange wings, a red bonnet and yellow bumpers. one day my mate came in and said "your never going to beleive the shed I've just seen" and the relevant phone picture to back it up. At the time i was quite embarassed by it but now i just think meh it was different
also what does (sic) mean??
One upmanship is a bit different in an Oz country town.
The senior "in" kids mostly turn up driving their own aging V8 Ford Falcon, some brush/hand painted in garish Bathurst racing colours of their day.
These are stock old smokers, not the race specials that cost more than the latest Aston & Porsche combined, but kids can dream.
They even have their own fenced parking area, out of bounds from 9.00AM to 3.00PM.
I was under strict instructions. It was OK to pick my son up in a truck, or ute, but if it was to be one of the Triumphs, it had to be the TR8, with it's V8 rumble.
Some states now have a law banning less than full, [3 years] licence holders driving turbo, or V8 cars. This may destroy Ozzie street creed for ever, if it comes in here.

It's used when quoting someone or some literature and it means that the quote is exactly as written originally. So it's normally used after someone's made a mistake of some kind and it shows that the writer hasn't made that mistake, but they know they're quoting someone else's mistake.martin84 said:

Teachers park their cars inside the school. Opposite the school is a shopping area car park of some size so it's no biggy. How can banning cars near a school work? Thought I’d reanimate a long dead thread rather than start a new one. My daughters school is one of these infant/junior schools so she’s been there about 5 years, it’s part of a local council estate with not a deal of money in a Yorkshire ex pit town.
For the first 3 years the cars were as you’d expect given the above info, however the last 2 years have seen an extraordinary influx of mums(always mums never dads) dropping off the kids in some pretty expensive machinery.
Where once there were Focus, Vectras and Hyundai’s lately there are (from yesterday’s visit) 69 plate Q7, 69 plate E- Pace, 19 plate Velar, 991 Carrera, New A6 and to top it off a 69 plate Bentayga.
I often think for the price of the Bentayga (which picks up a little girl) they could have put her through private education all the way to university.
Anyone else ever seen a shift change like this, I often wonder what drives the upsurge in available money nowadays unless it’s all credit? Even so the repayments would be significant I’d imagine.
