Just a simple case of self-serving bias.

By buying another one he positively affirms his original purchase and thus feels better about himself and his choices.

My step mother does the same thing with Vauxhall.

Crazy.

So here we have a guy who has a shed load more money than most on here, and who can afford to spend £10k a year + a 4 yr old trade in for a new car.

(4 cars in the family, remember?)

He likes the cars, they're new, they come with 12 months tax, no MOT worries, probably come with 12 months insurance, and he's found a dealer who treats him well, unlike 95% of all dealers.

A nice, little "slow news day" article so PH posts it.

And what do the P(rick)H Massif do?

"He's bought a normal car, what an idiot" - Yes, like the other 95% of the UK population. People have different tastes, likes, dislikes. If you can't deal with that, it's your problem.
"Dealers taking him for a ride" - As you obviously know the exact trade in values, discounts given, freebies given, please show details.
"The loyalty bonus is a joke" - What do the fleet purchasers get over and on top of the discounts? Crate of cheap champagne? I'd rather have the break and use of the RCZ. The buyer is happy. End of.

And as to those calling him a gay, inbred, gimp just because of the above. Christ, what morons.

I actually hope this post is a plant by PH to get all the morons to post. And now PH has a nice list of loser names that can be banned to improve the quality of the PH forums by about 500%!

Excellent!
Well said Sir.

How the evenings must fly by in their house
Some fairly unpleasant comments on this thread, shame, not what PH should be about at all.

Whatever they do in the evenings, they probably waste a lot less time than us on internet forums.......possibly even talk to each other a bit.....

I agree It is a bit of a pathetic PR effort by Peugeot, as somebody else said, worthy of the local rag maybe but no more.

But as for the wisdom of the guy who spent that money - seems reasonable to me. 22 years, 40% depreciation say, so around 4.5K per annum for cars for the whole family. Plenty of people on here losing a lot more than that on one equally mediocre piece of German tat, I am sure..... and I dare say he has enjoyed the whole experience, and has had decent newish cars to drive around in for 22 years.

Cheers,

Jerry

You think they would at least dig out something a bit more exciting, such as one of the ex works rally cars or maybe the 206 WRC or even a 205 T16
Does he look like the kind of chap who'd want an exciting drive? wink
I think the RCZ testdrive will be more than enough excitement for him.

yikes 4.5K per year in depreciation ... I've only ever lost on a car once in my whole driving career thus far! Why the words "decent" and "new" have to come together with the word "car" I don't quite know?? BUT whilst idiots keep buying boring new cars I'll be happy, it keeps the price of the real gems of the motoring world down.

As for the OP: at least he and his family are happy! smile Up to them just how they spend their money, isn't it?

I'm still not sure whether they should be rewarded or punished for being loyal to the Peugeot brand...

I would argue it is hard to lose LESS than £4.5K in depreciation if you buy any reasonably decent new car - how much for example would a mid-range Mondeo or even Focus or, dare I say it on here, Audi A3 lose in the first year??

All I'm trying to say is that this guy probably hasn't spent any more than any other person who buys a new car every couple of years, and there are plenty of those, even here on PH I am sure....

And your last line is 100% spot on - sums it up perfectly IMO :-)

Cheers,

Jerry

This PR gaff probably hasn't come from Peugeot directly. It looks to me like a local newspaper article that's been picked up by a media outlet and sent to interested parties. On the one hand I suspect Peugeot press office are cringing, but on another I suspect that they are pleased with the very cheap PR.

So who are the biggest mugs in this story? is the the customer because he bought 23 Pugs or is it the dealer for the 'prize' offered. Would it be OK, if the dealer offered a free car, a weekend in Paris to see the cars made at the factory, or something else more substantial? Or would it be ok, if the customer had bought 23 BMW's but the dealer gave him an extended test drive in an M5?

Actually thinking about it, the dealer really has shown a spectacular lack of imagination, and has not really used its contacts at pug head office to dig a little deeper and offer a better prize.

I find it astonishing that someone in retirement (early retirement by the looks of it), from a public sector position, can afford to burn that kind of cash.

That was my surprise too, it shows how over funded the public sector is.

I'm sure Terry would be thinking similar thoughts to some expressed here if the PH crew worked out how much they spent on "unnecessarily quick/flash/noisy/old/modified" cars since 1990 as well. Horses for courses..

What a nutcase.

On a similar note, a chap who lived over the road from us had a thing for Ford Escorts, he go and buy himself a brand new one every few months.
Or he is a member of the Ford employee car scheme. They have to change the car after regularly. Keeps the registration figures up you see.

Eh? He's a retired policeman. You have no idea what rank he was or if he was a specalist. It shows nothing about the public sector. For all you know he was Chief Constable of Suffolk Constabulary. He may have been in a job where most people would have a big german car but preferd to have new cars on a regular basis.

Fair enough on the guy. He likes having new cars. What is wrong with that compaird to burning fuel doing 20mpg in a sports car that sits in traffic 90% of the time? At least he enjoys his cars all the time.

I'm a bit concerned that he won't stop, i mean are we going to be getting an article in a couple decades time with him having now spent £500,000 on 46 Peugeots? ...and even more cringeworthy what will the dealer's 'reward' be for that? A bunch of stale petrol station flowers?
