Anyone miss the mad mods from the 1990s?

Obviously the 'topic' is massive and so there will always be extreme views and indeed, ectreme cars and whilst the fibre-glass kits and OTT stuff wan't my thing, there were elements of every car that graced Max Power's cover that I diod think 'Hey, that's kinda cool' and isn't that what is was all about? Sadly people (in boring reps who had sheltered childhoods) think Max Power = Barryboys and in reality, that was so far from the truth it's unreal. Take for example the 306 sedan... the work that has gone into that is unreal, the workmanship was outstanding and it also had circa 350bhp from a T16 engine. But because it's lurid green and on Max Power's cover, it's st right?
Ahhh, I love these sort of topics...!

I had been reading proper car magazines (Car, Autocar and Motor, Performace Car, Performance tuning etc) since I was at primary school and found Max Power a bit of a poor joke. Honestly if you wanted to look at tits why not man up and reach for the top shelf?!
Max Power rather put me off hot hatches when I started driving (mid Nineties roughly). Hence I ended up driving minis, MGs, Alfas instead. I guess I didn't want to be associated with the whole embarrassing "lad culture thing", far too much emphasis on showing off and cruising, rather than actual proper driving.
Some of the cars were interesting but there were so many awful body kits (for instance does anyone remember the trend for kits that were different left to right, seriously what were they thinking!) and stupid modifications, underbody neons and light up washer jets etc. Also didn't get the whole big stereo thing, I didn't want the extra weight!
I guess it added a bit of colour into the motoring scene but all in all I don't really miss it!

Remember going to the lakeside cruise in the early 90's and there was a Granada with 4 Massive subs on the back shelf... saw it in the Sun Newspaper a few weeks later and thinking .. wow.. 4 subs.. that guy is a lunatic.
That, and the black airbrused RS Turbo van.
i would dream about owning an RS Turbo Van night after night in my teens.. :clolud9:

In my early-mid teensm i bought nearly every issue of Revs, Fast car, Redline, Fast Ford & Max Power. I had a massive poster of the twin VR6 engined MK2 golf on my wall (which made all my mates think i was gay as i preffered the golf to the reverse of the poster which was of Jo Guest)
some, well most of the cars from back then were pretty horrific but there were some brilliant conversions done and although most of it now looks as though it was in pretty bad taste I doubt it'll be looked back on as being any worse than the current DUB/stancing thing
