I really can't believe that the Z3 has come down this low in price.
That is one good find surely its got to be the cheapest Z3 in the country.
I always wanted one but always thought they were way out of my price range.
I'm peeved off that I just spent £700 on a 1993 audi convertible now if only I knew that Z3s were that cheap I would of bought one.
I'm just hoping that someone says they know the car and its a real dog, it will make me feel better lol.

Are Z3's really that bad to drive then?

.
Intriguing really, at the CAR mag handling test at Combe back in the late 90s one of these matched an Integra DC2 on lap times. They must generate some cornering grip as you'd expect the Z3 to have a worse power to weight ratio - be interesting to see where both gained/lost time

I guess they work best on fast, smooth roads

As a few other people have said, I am surprised they have dropped that low - especially the 2.8 models.

Terrible advert, missing stereo, but then it is a 2.8 BMW convertible for a grand with MOT and tax.

Good shed!
IMO it's still cheap even for the UK, the fact it's near a big city must make it cheaper as in these here parts they still seem to go for a 2-2.5 grand round may way, assuming they're not totally used up or heavily damaged.

I don't think they are that cheap, this just seems a one off or hiding something? I looked it up on AutoTrader, 2.5-2.9, manual, and near me, 40 miles from Manchester, the next closest in price was £2495 with similar mileage.

There is another on a national search at £1500, but the rest are all £2k+

Nice little car for the weekend, certainly more interesting than some if the other 90s BMWs in a love or hate sort of way.

Worth >£1.2k in parts.

Funny stuff in here. Bet most of you complain about free lunches too?

I love my 2.8 Z3 which was bought new in 99. Don't have 400 bhp even with the blower. That would be fun though. Strange that I actually find the handling on the limit very similar to my 996 Turbo.

Your 996 needs a suspension overhaul.

I don't understand all these comments about poor handling. I've had a z3 and an mx5, and the z3 was better in every way.

I think the mx5 is put on a pedestal far too much around here.

Yeah, but one's designed for hairdressers, and the other's a real sports car! wink

I had a 3.0 Z3 and whilst it wasn't the purest driving experience I loved it for the short time I had it. I've not driven a lambo, a Ferrari, a 911, but I've had a gem (e39 530i) and a fail (Citroen C5 tourer) and the Z3 was just fine. Great engine, great sound, great quality, and quick enough. I'm amazed how many people have driven so much better. Its not a bad car per se but perhaps with the available components available to BMW perhaps not as good as it could have been. What is sad is that they've dropped so far.....a guy who works for us bought a '99 1.9 Z3 6 months ago for. £3500.....oops.

Is it worth a trip over to pick it up? You could probably convert it to left hand drive and still make a hefty profit.
I didn't know you could convert LHD to RHD, but I guess it'd probably be worth it, and a trip across Europe in a Z3 during the summer would be great! (I'm just 17, but I'm very much into cars)

I don't understand why these cars are as maligned as they are. Styling wise, to my mind they are interesting - and attempt to do something a little different without being totally Bangalized. I would have bought a Z3M this Summer if it wasn't for the punitive rates of road tax here in Ireland - approx STG 1,300 for cars over 3,000cc.

I don't understand it either, but some cars seem to be fashionable to really dislike. The Z3 is one of them. They're actually a lovely car; they're not a track car - they've never pretended to be. As an attractive, fairly powerful, brisk tourer they perform very well - top down they make you feel good driving them. In my view they appeal to a different kind of person to the MX5; someone who likes an old fashioned sporty tourer, not something buzzy, frenetic and Japanese.

What a piece of st. It's got semi-trailing rear suspension which means it must be completely crap to drive.

The Gortonian 'borrower' had not only stolen it with casual nonchalance, but then proceeded to run it as his daily driver to get to work.
He wasn't from gorton. Must have just been staying over.
'Shameless' comment
Even though it wasnt set in Gorton, thats where Shameless was filmed (which you may be aluding to).

It's funny, this. If this car was posted on mumsnet/netmums/essentialoilsheads, there'd be a 2 page discussion on the colour. On PH, it's a discussion about VAT.
Yeah, I just came looking for the thread to see if anyone'd picked up on the VAT thing... wink
