That's not a bonnet bulge!

Does anyone remember the original red press car? Now THAT one had a bonnet mountain!

Tenting 16 year old, nothing of merit and something you want to forget in a real hurry.

For quirky, eclectic tastes that Aston Zagato - and if you're wondering where you may have seen it before simply look at the Lancia Beta Coupe - although that was a more delicately-detailed shape, there's a strong overall resemblance.

Still, I believe the Zagato was indecently accelerative, a real Q-ship and yes, I would definitely, DEFINITELY have one - with Sarah Jessica Parker in the passenger seat (and in the back seat....and laid out on the bonnet....)

Sorry, I love the beta and hate the Zagato. I don't follow your argument.

You really can't deny that Aston's current and recent range shares an awfully strong family resemblance that goes way beyond a common corporate face. The unfortunate comparison you made with Audi earlier reinforces this. As someone on PH remarked once, "would you like you Audi in small, medium or large, sir?"

There are plenty of other large front engined rear wheel drive GTs and coupes out there that look dramatically different to the current Aston range, but it seems that when they first made the DB9 they came up with a shape so spectacularly beautiful that they haven't dared try anything else since. And to be honest, if that's the case I can sympathise. Why mess with a good thing?

I'm not denying there are similarities, obviously there will be as they're from the same manufacturer. Ferrari have a lot of similarities in their car designs, the difference is a mid engined coupe is naturally going to look a lot different to a front engined GT.

In pictures they do look similar, but when I saw the new Vanquish in the flesh they really do look a lot different.

A 348, Testarossa, Mondial and F40 look like four different cars. A 550 looked like a different car to a 456 and a 599 looked different to a 612. The Aston range looks like three or four different variations of the same car and has done so for years, even including the Rapide.

Why are you quoting vastly out of date cars? That clearly wasn't what I was aiming at. You could say a Lagonda looks nothing like a One-77 rolleyes

An FF, 458 and F12 all have very similar themes going on, you can clearly tell they're from the same manufacturer. A new Vanquish and a Vantage have a similar thing going on. They are no where near identical as some people think, as I've said, go look at them in the flesh, when one is parked next to the other they look very different.

Why would they want to change from such a beautiful shape too? Would they want to potentially risk alienating all their current loyal customers? They can't win. People would say "they should have kept the old beautiful designs" if they did change, and if they don't you get other knobheads whinging about why they haven't changed. They can't seem to do anything without getting criticised?

Don't roll eyes at me, you're one of the 8 people on the planet who don't recognise that the current Aston range all look alike. Noone levels similar complaints about Ferrari, or Lotus, or Maserati, or anyone other than Audi and Porsche's 911 styling team.

And then in your last paragraph you agree with my original point. Make your mind up.

Right... I've explained my reasons why several times. I'm not going to do it again rolleyes

I guess if you don't like the looks the simplest answer is don't buy one? Everyone is a winner then.

Why are you so defensive about it? You do indeed keep repeating yourslef, but what you are saying is they look different, and then give a lot of reasons why they all look the same. Sort it out.

I give reasons why they look similar. As per every single manufacturer. It's quite simple, try doing what I've said several times - go compare them in the flesh and you will see they aren't as similar as you may think rolleyes

Yes you keep giving resons why they look similar while arguing with people who say they look similar, and even calling them pricks for doing so. Like I said, sort it out.

Yep, I stand by it. Pr1964 is a colossal bell end, every Aston thread he comments on usually involves the exact same post "All Aston's look the same". Even if the thread has nothing to do with modern Astons - see this one for an example. It gets a bit tiresome rolleyes

Well, as with the styling, which one of you two is acting like a prick right now is going to be something that will divide our opinions.

Maybe they cannot afford to develop a new model from the ground up?

They may not have huge margins on each model or afford to get type approval on new lights/buttons etc?

Yeah, but it also has rocket launchers, so I wasn't going to get hung up on the detail! smile

The 80s Zagato stuff does often look a bit transformers.

Wasn't really an argument. I remember when the Aston Zagato first came out there was comment in the motoring press at the time that its shape appeared to have been modelled on the Lancia Beta Coupe.
