Nice. I'm starting to get a little tempted, at least to have a test drive. Ali - I notice you've a Z4 Coupe too - are you swapping for the Fiesta, or is it an extra car? I'm in a similar boat (have Z4 Coupe) and am thinking I need something more practical that the missus will drive, and with fond memories of my Mini Cooper, I'm thinking about a hot hatch. I'll be interested to see how you get on with it and whether you miss the Z4!
I've sold the Z4 and replaced it with this. I've put some thoughts in my readers car thread but its safe to say that in the first week I haven't missed my Z4 really.

Don't get me wrong, the Z4 is superior in outright speed and the 'premium' feel but the ST just makes me smile constantly. And the chassis is an absolute delight. If you need something more practical then I'd recommend one of these 100%!!

What a useless piece of st this car is.

20 year old Imprezas that cost about 2k could spank it, not to mention even the earlier liberty RS's, and this car would know which way they went.

I cant believe you boys are getting moist about some 2013 car that still hasn't made it into the 90's...
Don't feed the troll he had a similar thread saying how the new 911 was st because the subaru was just as quick for 1/2 the price about 6 months back :/

Apologies mate, this week ended up being a bit hectic.

The spare wheel tyre size is T125/80R15.
Many thanks. Picking mine up on Tuesday and looking forward to it even more after reading your write-ups.

It now seems to be getting some good reviews from the press.

Ford seem to have hit the spot with this one.

While Renaultsport seem to have lost the plot with the Clio.
Everyone wants an automatic don't they?

Cheers - will check the other thread. Glad you're enjoying it; it makes me feel less bad about potentially having to change cars.

Well Renault obviously thinks so.

There is a sort of underlying smugness to the way Renault assumes this is now what buyers want or should have.

I’ve now had a good look around this new Clio and while the basic model should appeal, the RS is a right duffer on the looks. Just those huge MPV style door mirrors would be enough to kill anyone’s potential passion for a Clio RS.

Very probably, just not as good as old Clio 200 cup or maybe even new 208 Gti(at least taking into the account this first comparison test)

Maybe they changed it, because it says 4 out of 5 here. Reading the whole article (and I freely admit I may have got hold of the wrong end of the Clarksonian metaphor) I get the feeling that if it were more expensive then it would have more stars.

I saw a couple of them out and about today, and I must admit that they do look a lot better than in photographs. They seem to have recaptured some of that freshness that the Mk 1 Focus had, instantly making the current set of competitors look rather old fashioned and stodgy.

Good first comparison. The only thing the Clio RS will do well is a lap time. It misses out in so many other ways and is a tragic end to that great Clio RS heritage. I bet the Clio will now get its ass kicked by the Pug and Ford on sales.

It's covering a different audience though imo it's not as focused as the old Clio and targeting a lower end of the market to the new one, the pewgot was always going to be hit or miss (and it missed I think).

It does looks rather nice in that molten orange colour though.

I am fed up of hearing people whine about how much cars cost. The cost of new cars has been creeping up steadily for over 10 years, often above inflation. Material and labour costs have increased, as have the safety features and minimum acceptable specification. Its the world we live in.

The ST Fiesta is a cracking car. My wife test drove an ST2 yesterday (I also had a quick go) and it is very fast (faster than my old R56 Cooper S), handles extremely well (no surprise), has excellent seats (a little high for my liking but still better than most rivals in the sector) and a class leading gear change and ride.

The engine is to die for. Super refined and hugely flexible. Quiet as a mouse when pootling along, and throaty when you drop your right foot.

Downsides? A little bit too much hard plastic on the doors. Only a 3 door model available.

If the Fiesta ST being 'only 3 door' is an issue, go for the new 5 door Clio RS. Only about £3000 more and as price is not an issue......
