How can it have doubled when it has actually gone down in real terms ?
And that's not even taking account where prices should be if manufacturers had kept up with £/€ which has gone massively against us over the past five years, by the tune of 20%.
Hes already said perception over reality. Move along now nothing to see here. And that's not even taking account where prices should be if manufacturers had kept up with £/€ which has gone massively against us over the past five years, by the tune of 20%.
At £19k with that spec, whether you like it or not, it looks good value, compared to the oppostion, the equivalent ten years ago or any other measure. If the £400 a month is over 36 months (is it?), then spending over £14k in a period of three years with nothing to show for it at the end does not look good value.
Three years from now we'll have cup cars and Gordini cars, as well as other editions like Red Bull etc. The car will be refreshed and therefore improved.
The whole debate right now is fruitless. At least wait for the Cup and Gordini cars. FYI the Gordini will be more powerful this time round.
Hmmmm....there may be a 'chav' contingent at play here though, which will explain some of the comments.
I'd actually like to see a Vauxhall Adam VXR in red.

I doubt there will be a Cup version, it represented a very small percentage of the sales mix of the 200 - so arguably not worth doing. The whole debate right now is fruitless. At least wait for the Cup and Gordini cars. FYI the Gordini will be more powerful this time round.

The product will evolve through its 6 years life span though.

Looking at how Renaultsport has evoloved its latest products, that will be a limited edition (Gordini style etc......) with a paint job, some badges and a much higher price tag then. A few mugs bought into that game and now reget it.The product will evolve through its 6 years life span though.
With a 1.6 Turbo the best chance is a bit more power from Renault, but lets be honest, they don't have the money do something really special anymore.

And as many people predicted, it's a good car except for the gearbox.

Sorry if this has come up before, but i have just been comparing the overal size of the new Clio with vehicles from the past and the Cortina seems to be a good example, along with the previous model Megane:
New Clio:
L - 4027mm
W - 1707mm (2025mm with wing mirrors)
H - 1493mm
Ford Cortina (1980's)
L - 4261mm
W - 1702mm
H - 1321mm
Megane RS (06-09)
L - 4209mm
W - 2026mm (with wing mirrors)
H - 1458mm
Don't get me wrong, i think this is a great car, but like to know why vehicles have to get so big? Are we really that much bigger as a race from 30 years ago?

don't care how it drives...
Renault need to sort out their build quality.
I was sitting in a "Renault" quashqai the other day and was amazed at how "cheap" it felt compared to my 1998 jeep grand cherokee
The door handles felt like they were going to break off in my hand.
Well we've been abusing our Nissan Qashqai for 18 months (I have 2 teenagers) and nothing has broken, particularly not the door handles. Not a rattle either.Renault need to sort out their build quality.

I can't say the same about our previous VW Touran, where the dashboards rattled from new and the reliability was atrocious. The Nissan is proving far cheaper to run and own too. There is still something very Japanese about Nissans, unsurprisingly.
Perception vs reality again.

Most people haven't had pay rises for many years (unless they got different jobs, promotions etc), so I disagree its gone down in real terms. And that's not even taking account where prices should be if manufacturers had kept up with £/€ which has gone massively against us over the past five years, by the tune of 20%.

I drive round in a diesel Civic, what's your point? Am I not allowed an opinion either?
Dullard.
You're perfectly entitled to an opinion, but a simple one liner along the lines of "1.6 turbo, no thanks" when you're just driving a diesel run-around is pretty redundant. If you're not in the market for one of these, then what's the point posting irrelevant negative comments about them?Dullard.
I don't go posting "Boring 4 door saloon. No thanks." in every 3 series thread - and this is no different.

I'd argue that it has gone down in real terms, but that people have also got poorer in real terms. I guess it just comes down to how you define your basic unit of "cost". I haven't seen it mentioned amongst all this bhing and backbiting but....
177ft/lbs @ 1750RPM which holds on til 5k!? So is this equipped with a VGT? To my knowledge Porsche are the only ones who've gone into production with VGT on a petrol engine. Low revving pull of a derv burner without the stigma and rev cap, awesome.
