Do you define success purely by the car you drive?

There are many more measures than this, few of which revolve exclusively around the money you earn.

That my friend is very true.

I agree, but its only just as daft as defining the size of one's manhood by the car that they drive.
Bizarrely it seems to prompt a reaction though, does make you wonder if there's some truth to it.
Wonder or hope?
Doesn't bother me in the least. I'm more than happy with my lot in life.

I've had a Transit Connect for over a year it's a great little thing, I only kept my Porsche Turbo for 5 months, didn't like it. I'm not sure this adds anything at all to the discussion, it is a shame however that I never had the chance to race myself.

I love those "one car racing" situations. I had one the other day in two lane traffic. Two youngsters in a hatchback, screaming up the inside, cutting across, weaving about. He changed lanes quick and got stuck behind a van, thrashed past and dived in front again, then a bus pulled out and I passed him again, lots of wheel spinning and over revving. This went on for about 3 miles, I stayed at exactly the speed limit and didn't change gear once while he had the race of his life, this happens a lot in Essex!

Would love to have been a fly on the wall when he told his mates the story.

I'm sure I'm not alone in getting slightly nervous at people having a 1 car race near me. I don't really fancy getting involved in their crash. I had one cabbage just last week who decided not to slow at all for a d/c roundabout and opted to straight-line it instead, except I in Lane 2 got to the roundabout just before he did in Lane 1 and he apexed just in front of me, only missing me because I anticipated his stupidity and braked very hard - him missing the n/s of my front bumper by inches. I'll admit I did get quite angry by endangering me & my car with his recklessness but restrained myself from doing anything stupid. Meanwhile he (in a Connect, oddly enough) probably thought he had the better of a more powerful car by driving like a total fudd.

Was this on the A43 by any chance?

Haha no, the A90 - almost exactly twice as bad!

Its true about penis size. Mine shrunk by an inch just looking for one, when I finally bought it it was a full 3" shorter. This is offset by the amount of women who now want to date me because I drive Porsche, I often steal them from connect drivers once they've parked up and left the doors unlocked.

Best mod for the turbo is grills over the front bumper intakes, people think its leaves that get trapped and rust the radiators, but I can reveal through personal experience, it is in fact ladies underwear.

Well, I reckon Sabine Schmitz would beat me easily in a race around the Nurburgring - she in a Transit and me in my 911 (non-turbo).

So logic dictates that a decent driver who really knows his Transit could possibly take a numpty driver in a 911 (i.e. worse than even me!) given that Sabine would consider me one compared to her driving prowess.

For the record though: the best part of owning a Porsche (or any sports car imo) is for their cornering ability and I do tend to take corners much faster than many drivers even when I'm in a far slower car so the 911 is glorious. Straight line speed doesn't do much for me - albeit I do like to accelerate as fast as possible on an open road.
laugh
I don't do racing against others though and keep my speed thrills between myself and a nice twisty, open road.
Ah but she's a professional driver. Take the average Joe 'very good driver' and the average 'poor driver' and the result would be different to the Sabine example.

You are indeed correct about the cornering ability of the 911 - my turbo (since I had Center Gravity dial out the horrendous understeer they engineer into the 4wd versions) corners in a manner that still surprises me to this day.

I had a very fast E55 AMG prior to this - I dare anyone in a transit to get somewhere before anyone driving a 55AMG K in anger - and that thing couldn't take mild bends let alone corners. The 911 has the cornering ability that the AMG had in straight line speed, combined with the straight line speed!

And to the chap that thinks he can out-brake someone in a 911 in his van... the 911 driver wasn't trying. I would have stopped long before you understeer into the middle of the roundabout!

That's a top tip there. The last thing you need is your air filter getting clogged with knickers, bras, stockings and suspender belts. The car would be so down on power that a Connect could beat it.
