My only gripe is the drifting, which seems blasphemous for a car that has had so much engineering put into it. Leave that for the for the Tesco car park crowd, please.
Are you kidding??I sometimes get bored of seeing him drift some big heavy German saloon on track because that's not what they are for but this is different.
It's a perfect way to show just how controlable the car is despite having over 900 bhp.
Yes it shows that it's controllable, and a couple of corners of that would suffice, for me, but are you suggesting that the P1 was made for drifting? Maybe a couple of jumps would be good as well?
I'm more interested in the way it drives when driven quickly and smoothly. Chris can probably drift almost any car.

one question though - why the open diff and not an LSD? If you drive it like Chris was how hard is it working the rear brakes? I guess with 900Bhp both wheels spin anyway and you its not going to spin it all away on the inside wheel.
Read the first thread on CHs written piece, we went through all that^^^ in triplicate at least........Seems the only minor limitation is the tyre technology.
Imagine in five years time when this has evolved, the car will be even better.
Excellent video, was engrossed and captivated throughout. Goodwin and Harris make a good double act![smile](/inc/images/smile.gif)
I think it is great to have half an hour devoted to ONE review of a car, immersive, engaging and blows traditional TV into the weeds.
Hope there is a directors cut...I need more!

Don't mean to carp on about a relatively minor detail but obvious inaccuracies do my head in. Kerb weight 1450kg.. really? and just after 1395kg dry weight figure came out...The 12C dry weight to full wet weight was 1300 to ~1430kg and the P1 isn't going to have any less fluids than the 12C (and one hopes the P1 will have a larger fuel tank).
Great video though, thoroughly enjoyed it. Vastly impressive both Sutcliffe and Harris so far have placed the P1 a good step above the 918.

A great video no doubt - but the car sounded rather dull
, I understand it's the 'ultimate' etc, but i'd have one of the very many other supercars from Chris's previous videos (or any merc with an AMG engine!).
The old Veyron Harris video from autocar made much more of an impression on me

5:20 on... reminds me why I like the Veyron, I love this video. I think it illustrates why the P1 differs from a Veyron. The P1 needs to be taken to a track to be 'amazing'. I don't want a car that has to be driven on track. In fact I hate cars that need to be driven on track to show off their abilities.
It is amazing on the road they just couldn't demonstrate that in Abu Dhabi.![frown](/inc/images/frown.gif)

My "concern" (which isn't really concern at all, more of a wondering as I try to go to sleep) is that of course a car that sits 50mm lower, allowing a whole host of aero to work is going to be f
king incredible on a track. I'd much prefer to see how it performs in "road car mode" (but on the track), which surely provides a more realistic point of reference. As they kept saying, "it's a road car".
I dunno, seems a bit like cheating to me - not cheating other car manufacturers, cheating the good will that cars are designed and built with. I guess it allows manufacturers to optimise cars for multiple situations, but I'm not sure I like it. I always loved it when a car walked the fine line between road and track, everyday and exotic. That line is irrelevant with todays cars. Fixed spring rates and a choke my good man! Yeah...
Great video - sure it's a mighty impressive car, and it's great McLaren have been the ones to throw everything at a car. Good for Britain. Now all we need is for TVR to get going again - I think a dose of the exact opposite mentality would go down well.

That's the first report that made sense to me as to why there is the hybrid element. I'd always thought it was in there to reduce CO2 and all that tree hugging nonsense but to use the electric system to reduce lag and make the torque delivery linear is an excellent idea.
Fantastic car.
Fantastic car.
The best looking hypercar ever in my opinion. Infact its the best looking car ever made!!
As mentioned, for a fresh into the "road car manufacturing" scene within the last 25/30yrs, and to have built 3 different McLaren marqued models and to have two of them as game changers and legends, is without about an incredible achievement. The P1 alone as a vehicle, is more exciting than an entire F1 racing season in my opinion. It has well earned presence!!
And to start comparing this to the Veyron is just absolutely disgusting!!! Eg:
1. The Veyron is old hat (P1 is the next level)
2. The Veyron is brute ugly (P1 is art)
3. The Veyron requires twice the cylinder capacity and boost-makers (turbos)(P1 uses new tech)
4. The Veyron was first penned in the mid-late 90s and took years to get it to a test (P1 was only heard of a few years ago)
5. The Veyron was marketed massively to help VW justify their purchase of the failed Bugatti brand (McLaren have earned their sucess respectively)
6. The Veyron isnt exclusive - too many editions/colour schemes (P1 is limited numbers)
Just because the Veyron held a top speed record and had large numbers, it doesnt make it a good car!! Sure top speed is for pub talk and willy waving. So the Veyron fits in nicely (having "willy"head owners/fans and all that).
It takes the Veyron over 2 miles to do its top speed. Hennessey's Ford GT takes 1 standing mile to do 267.3mph. So there you go. The Veyron gets beaten by a w
ky old Ford!!
To cool off the rant and speak more about the McLaren Porn1, it says its limited to 217mph. It would be interesting to see just how hard it would go. But i have literally watched this video twice back to back and i cant get enough of it!!
