If I was ever to buy a new car I would want this chap to had it over...........
You see handing over a new Audi is like making love to a beautiful woman...
IS this where I go for the, seemingly standard, PH "relationship thread," response of "as it's preceded by a deposit and followed by 35 monthly payments?"You see handing over a new Audi is like making love to a beautiful woman...

If you've 15 minutes to waste, you could learn how to hand over a car "Audi style" yourself:

Loved the bit when he said "it's the last time you see it in that condition".
You're not fking kidding : the dealers traditionally swirl new paint to buggery when they "prep" new cars. Or at any subsequent service for that matter.
I don't think I would ever buy a new car, nor would I like any ceremony if I did.
However a new car is a significant investment. My Gran purchased new Vauxhalls from her local dealer every 3 years from the 70s until the 90s. She loved the collection - I am sure there are people out there who get similar pleasure now.

The last brand new car I bought was a 111R. In a galaxy far, far away, when you could get a new Lotus for a mere £27k. Anyway, the handover was simple - "The car's over here. Let me show you all the features... a steering wheel. Off you go then."
Since then, I bought mint used cars instead. So I've managed to avoid all these new era of cringe worthy handovers. These antics would make sure i stayed away!

It's been a big thing in the USA for a while. I remember a programme where "Chopper" Josh Towbin went to work in a UK car supermarket and had the salesmen doing crazy adverts and getting customers to bang a gong in the showroom when they bought cars. A guy I know in the USA shared a picture of his daughter banging a gong in a Kia showroom to celebrate buying a Soul as her first car.
At the end of the programme the woman doing the voiceover said that, despite the Las Vegas Towbin dealership being open 24 hours a day, the UK car supermarket Chopper visited sold more cars with its low key approach than Chopper did with all his showmanship and glamour.

I just hope it goes a bit better than when I collected my 123d from s main dealer in Croydon in Jan 2008.
Admittedly it wasn't new but a pre-reg with less than 20 miles recorded is hardly what I would think of as used!
Made an appointment a week earlier so plenty of time.
Arrived in the showroom and the salesman had the tax disc in his pocket and the floor mats in a plastic bag over his arm!
He went to get the car from the car park and returned in a 120d, but it was at least silver like the car I had come to collect!
So he went and got the right car, but had to take it to the nearest filling station to put some fuel in it - "some" being the operative word here, as in half a tank!
Then tried to sell me the tyre insurance, GAP and all that pointless b******s before he had to make a phone call - can't remember why but he had to wait for his colleague to get off the landline as "his mobile had no credit".
As you can maybe tell I would not recommend them! Told BMW that when they contacted me but they never sent me any response to my description of the handover!
Total contrast to my previous experience and that of the OH when she got both her Minis, but they all came from another dealer.
Mind you I would still probably prefer this sort of farce to a car cover, name in lights type of performance!
Let's just do the money, fill in the V5, give me the keys and get out the way thanks!

Picked up my Father's Merc when we were younger from the Factory in Bremin. They flew us out there, put us in a lovely hotel, had a full tour of the factory (over 3 hours).
This was followed by something to eat overlooking the large glass clad room with the new cars dotted around (think posh sandwiches rather than a la carte)
We were then given a nice German man who efficiently ran through everything on the car, handed us the keys, we drove it back home (via Meilenwerk in Dusseldorf) then dropped it back off at MB. They serviced, cleaned and switched over to UK plates.
Great service, great memory

I had this pomp and ceremony rubbish when I collected my car from Audi. Unfortunately the sales guy and the guy they brought down to sell me gap insurance / paint cover were a little bit embarrassed as they pulled the cover off and I pointed out that they had the wrong car. No, no they pointed out, this is your car. However cue much apologies as I pointed out that not only did I order a black interior (this cars interior was a light grey), but the sport seats that they were so keen to tell me to spec were also missing. Absolute wombles.

I've been to the Sindelfingen factory a few times with my Dad to pick up cars. It was great.
Not sure what all this negativity about handovers is, and people demanding they stop and the car be handed over straightaway. Jeez, just try and enjoy the moment, guys.
Presumably this is the same mob who take pleasure in going to car dealerships dressed like tramps.
There is a balance on handovers. Doing the silk cloth unveil and having clapping staff may work on some cars. Dealers are using handovers as another opportunity to sell guff that they failed to sell at purchase time. I've bought 11 cars this year for family & the firm. Do I really want a party handover for a washing machine white 1.2 pool car?Not sure what all this negativity about handovers is, and people demanding they stop and the car be handed over straightaway. By the end of the year I will be on car 20 or so. What I want is an opportunity to check the goods, the salesman pointing out anything that may be different/unusual and then to drive off and experience the car.
