Most of the black wheel photos shown on this thread just show a black space under the arch up to the tyre. The wheel could be a cheap three spoke design or an intricately designed magnesium racing wheel. Thats the bit I don't get, why hide a nice wheel?

Each to their own though, it's good to like different things.

To be honest when I see the boggo Zetec S with less power and no black accents I remember how much I love this.

Not totally black, but I quite like them on my Golf. Each to their own...

I'm not a big fan of black wheels. Almost looked elsewhere when buying my most recent car because of the black wheels but everything else about the car was spot on. Decided to live with them. However, after seeing the car with silver winter wheels on it I grew to hate the blacks. Sold them last week. Replacement wheels are silver (and an inch smaller, but that's a different discussion smile ).

Winter silvers:

Saying all that, it depends on the vehicle and circumstances. I'm not a fan of bling alloys on vans and shunned them on mine in favour of steels. Tin of Hammerite and a paint brush and I've got this. Lesser of 2 evils, black rather than bling?

Forever keeping them shiny...loved them looking clean on the driveway, hated them after a hoon...

Usually I like black (or anthracite) on white cars but those silver wheels on the spyder look stunning. The detail gets lost in black.

I think it's very subjective. I think the problem as with many car trends is that a few cars come out with (for argument sake) black wheels that look ace but then unfortunately everyone gets on the 'band wagon' and before you know it every 2nd car on earth (regardless of style or spec) has them.

I guess it's the same with deep dish alloys, Carbon bonnets, Racing stripe over the car, Aero fuel filler caps etc.

I took quite some time trying to decide on wheels for my MK3 MX5. In the end went for matte bronze. Different from silver and I agree that black wheels lose all the definition in the shape and style.

This is by far my favourite Boxster - so light for a modern car too!

Love my black wheels.

Developed a massive thing for gold wheels lately too ...

I'm no fan of black wheels (or white paint) on mundane cars. But...

I happen to think this looks rather good.

In my view this is ok, except for that the calipers clash with the wheels. Everyone knows Lambos have ma-hoo-sive brakes so I would hit those with some black hammerite and clean the look of the car up myself. Less is more, etc, etc...

Do you know the colour code for your wheels?

No idea I'm afraid. That's the factory finish from Sparco.

Now that's neat & works.
Sadly not so with some wheels that look like they have been sourced from Halfords or on-line discount houses.

When I bought my 2010 Focus ST (Mk2.5 peformance blue), they were all coming with black wheels as ford fitted them as standard to the later cars. Didnt like the look with black wheels so I spent longer looking & found one with original silver wheels from the factory.

I think they look great on sports cars, but I liked them years ago when they were only popular amongst the modified car scene, whereas now the market is saturated by manufacturers who use them.

I will say that I don't like gloss black wheels, but the satin black set on Megane trophy are perfect smile

Forgive me if I don't cover the calipers in Hammerite. rofl
