When I was in my mid teens, I bought an 8yo 2cv - and dismantled it.
When I was in my mid 20s, I had a brand spankin' new Alfa 155 company car - and had some dismantled 2cvs.
When I was in my mid 30s, I changed the Citroen XM turbo I'd bought when it was 4yo as a co.car replacement for a 15yo Saab 900 turbo - and had some dismantled 2cvs.
Now I'm in my mid 40s, my everyday car is a £250 20yo Citroen ZX diesel - and I have some dismantled 2cvs...

I've never financed a car in my life, and I certainly don't plan on starting now.

interesting concept?! biggrin

who cares what car people drive!
Are you disrespecting a car snob snob? Do you know what that makes you? biggrin
you have seen through my logic biggrin
though - is it like a double negative - a snob snob cancels each other out...

Hey don't knock it.

I had my first ever sexual encounter in a viva. I was 17 and a bit and we had been talking about it for weeks but we never got a chance to be alone, there was always some family commitment or crisis that got in the way.

Anyway, It was August 1981 and we were coming back from grandad's funeral, I remember the car just skidding to a halt, I grabbed the dash and door and asked why she stopped. She didn't say a word. She just switched off the car, shuffled over to my side, stroked my forehead, kissed my eyelids and the top of my nose. I was sad and bloody excited at the same time! I felt really guilty because I should have been mourning, but I had waited months for this (it felt like years!). I wanted to say no, this is not the right time or location I dreamed about, but she put her fingers on my lips to stop me from talking and just whispered with incredibly hot breath "No need to say anything, it's okay, it's okay".

It was like a bloody film, I remember it like it was yesterday!

Obviously, I'm not going to tell you what happened, we are all adults here, and this is not one of those websites, but even if it was, I have too much respect for my grandma.
Not sure whether to ask this.

But are you saying your Grandma kissed you?
laugh
And so soon after the funeral too.

Truly outrageous.

I regularly receive Abuse/Banter because my colleagues because their generic Diesel boxes have more horsepower than my MR2 (SW20)

They don't understand that they are missing the point entirely :P

As a petrolhead I own (as opposed to pcp without being snobby lol) quite a few nice cars and find depending on what I am driving at the time the different reactions from other motorists is quite staggering. Reckon colour of the car and diffetent engine/exhaust noise plays a large part in this.

Some shout verbal abuse, tosser, coffee beans are the norm especially when overtaking.

Others give you the thumbs up or stop randomly almost causing an accident to let you out at a junction.

I often find as much fun in driving a snotter as other stuff. Perhaps the most interesting aspect is the variety.

The worst scenario is when people drive a particular car because of the perceived badge image. These people have no interest in the car whatsoever and can actually damage the brand as happened with Porsche in the 1980s when every banker and his dog bought one.

Good good mate of mine works for VWFS and has cars on scheme paying cost, lovely cars but i like to tinker and you cant do that with a leased motor. Personally im not 1% jealous of a leased car and guess im old fashioned. I relate the matter to having a mortgage or renting a property, I know which id rather.

I drive both a 92' 1.4 Nissan Sunny and a Nissan 350z, Im me whichever i choose to go to work in and feel no better/worth than anyone else in either car. If folks are prepared to spend £350+ a month on a car, hand it back a the end of the term with nowt to show for it - that's fine and up to them.

Few years back i was asked to take part in a corp team event track day at Bedford, lad in finance had a newish Golf GTD with all the options and the other had various nice motors that he swapped every 12-18 months. So the chap came over knowing i was into my cars and said if id like to join. Of course i said, id love to. He then went on to ask what car do i drive?. At the time i had a Nissan Almera GTi (spot the trend) and he paused for a moment as if to say *this guy is going to cost us places at the event and tbf did look down on me as if he was doing me a favour.

On the coach going from the entry to our part of the event, they mentioned that between them that had circa 30+ track day event experience, Mr GTD had done mini race series in the past and the other Nurburgring in the past. Needless to say of the 7 or so teams that took part, our team/company won the event and fancy a guess who was quickest member of the quickest team? biggrin

Rate the man, not the ride.

Brush painted cars! It used to be quite normal to repaint your car with a brush, in fact you could buy litre tins of 'Parsons repaint' from your local car accessories shop(used to be one on every corner smile ). Although I preferred Dulux Non - drip applied with a 4 inch brush. Them
were t' days, non of this car renting bks then.
Did you do the trick of sitting the tin of Dulux non-drip gloss in a basin of hot water for ten minutes before using it? The paint shrank onto the car as it cooled taking out the brush stroke marks.
I should know, I had a two-tone 1200 Triumph Herald painted Harebell Blue and Buttercream (later to get a 'vinyl' roof done with stipple-brushed underseal).

I've had a few Mondeo comments, mind. My usual response is "it's a Ghia X, though."
Wow I bet that shuts them up.
I used to have a Mondeo Ghia X. For kit-level Top Trumps, only high specification Mercs beat it. thumbup

Though anyone playing kit-level Top Trumps probably needs to take a long, hard look at themselves. hehe

Oh dear.

You sound like a Salesman's dream. I've never bought a new car, never had a problematic second hand car. Do you really believe people only sell cars because they know they are fked?

I havent got an issue with leasing, but when you do lease your monthly costs are based on depreciation.
It’s also written off against a business and ultimately lowers your tax bill so abit of justified depreciation is ok

I wouldn’t want to buy a second hand car you’re mostly buying someone else’s problems/cast offs
You play the car finance game well, but this is of no help to the OP's ranting, the heart of the matter of car ownership/ability to pay installments vs image.

I work, what is there to defend? I said my thoughts, I'm not the kind of person to spend my mornings and nights arguing with people I'll never meet/want to meet online over absolutely nothing.

Like some others in this thread, I own all of my imaginary cars outright, too.

Every single one of them.

All bought with cold, hard, imaginary cash.
