First we ignored him. Then we laughed at him. Then we fought him. Then he won.

I don't like jumping on bandwagons, but reading Cackett's recent stuff on here has been more of a chore than a pleasure. Plenty of examples in the thread above where he has spouted what is basically utter censored.

Hopefully the management team are reading these responses, perhaps they're not, but if they are I hope they're considering the probability that it's time to hand the baton to someone else...

In my opinion, when NC writes in a more straightforward manner, the result is concise and informative and there's a good readership waiting for suitably written articles.

I must be lagging behind, I'm still in the 'laughing at him' phase.

this looks like a vastly improved exterior to me.

2+2 ferrari v8, really nice interior, decent boot. reasonably priced (for a ferrari). even the standard seats look like they don’t need upgrading.

thumbs up on paper from me.

A main issue with PH articles is -- they pander too much to the PH baying mob.

Instead of getting immediately to the point and just saying "the Portofino looks like an MX-5 and sounds like a Golf R and is a bit rubbish"... they will walk around the houses to try and deflect criticism before everyone jumps on the thread to put the boot in... As a result, 10-to-20-word sentences often become 20-to-50-word unreadable waffle.
You need to sit down for 10 minutes in the gents Yipper, it's starting to come out of your mouth.

Agree on both points.

When I see an article posted on the home page I always look to see who wrote it and my heart sinks when it's NC, most if his articles are just plain hard work. He came in for similar criticism when he was writing on Autocar which must be the reason for his sideways move to PH. Surely in the Haymarket portfolio there must be another publication that is crying out for his work, Steam Engine monthly perhaps?

Yes ...and an 812 Superfast ...

Regarding rear seats - I'm 6'5" so any car purporting to be a 2+2 , for me is a 2+1.

Having said that, in the past I have owned a Maserati 3200GT, a Nissan GT-R, a Maserati GranCabrio and two Maserati GranTurismos and they have all been ok for rear seat passengers with me at the wheel.

"Granted, there's a tiny bit of fuss about some of the new creases ..."

A tiny bit of fuss? It's way over-styled, and very disappointing for a Ferrari. That side view in particular is a styling disaster. It looks as though it's been T-boned on the sill under the door.

And I agree that the interior is a mess, as well.

It's a real shame. Ferrari seem to have decided that sales must be increased at all costs, even if it does mean that they have to pander to fashionable whims instead of producing cars that they really want to produce. I guess it's because it's now a public company, with nasty, avaricious shareholders to pacify.

It can only be a matter of time before they announce a hideous SUV - maybe they can call it the Ferrari F150.

Exterior over styled, too buys too much going on where is the sleek subtle lines and elegance?
And the inside looks like they loaded buttons into a shotgun and let go..

The basic proportions of the car, the haunches etc just are frumpy too, no change from the previous model.

Interestingly the California it replaces was the car that almost all female Ferrari customers bought. About 80% of it's sales were to women. The Portofino is stunning and I'm sure the ladies will be queuing for ownership.
Be interested in your data source, sounds like a Clarkson comment to me. I owned 3, one of them twice and most of the other owners I know/ have met were most definitely male
I think some confusion from bvb. Something like 70% of California owners were said to be new to the marque. Perhaps 80% of women who bought a ferrrari chose the California but 80% of California owners are not women. Not even 8%

Re the portofino I think it will look better in real life than the pics and will sell very well. Having read a couple of reviews where journalists say it's not a 458/488 dynamically that's the whole point. It sits higher your bum is not on the road and is a more usable car
