Solo Euro Hoon. Car, Guitar, Drone!!!
Discussion
Firstly, enjoyed the bit about the climb, and the fact that you were tackling it with trainers, t-shirt and broken stick...
but by far my favourite update is about Dave, you built tension, drama and it had a happy ending...
when you get back I think there is mileage in a "The Crazy Adventures of Dave the Drone" thread.
Someone mentioned above, was Dave filming at the time, and if he was - is there any footage of your blue screen panic? Don't be shy, we won't laugh... promise...

Dave wasn't recording unfortunately no Swamps.
There is a big red button on the screen which I presumably press to start recording but at this stage all my concentration is centered on just getting him into the air. Had I managed that then getting the recording started would have been next on the agenda.
Fear not though, I will get something up. I've still got another week and a half of travelling so plenty of time.
I initially thought the Alps would be a great place for footage but on reflection probably not the ideal place for learning the ropes.

Perhaps when you launch Dave whilst up a mountain, it calculates the height from ground level and thinks you are flying high..
I think Dave seems to be aware of everything Syd. I'm pretty sure he knows what altitude he's at, as well as his exact positional coordinates and the current magnetic polarity on Tau Ceti.
Frankly he's like science fiction to me.
He's like a fking knife missile or something.
It scares me, it really does.
I think I'm going to buy a big thick marker pen and write "What are you doing Dave?" on his blood red casing.
It's all I can do.
As Socrates said "All I know is that I know nothing".
Even the whispered word 'Drone' sends a shiver down my spine.

I managed to combine all three back in 2013, but certainly not in a McLaren whilst toting a Jellycaster that's for sure
More details please cherry! Can't be many of us stupid enough to attempt it.

As I mentioned, the vehicle was not quite as visceral as I imagine a 720S is, and the guitar that came along for the ride was a basic PRS Santana. But sitting in the little piazza in Santo Stefano of an evening, watching the sun set with a large Bushmills, and playing some Pink Floyd was pretty good.
Not as exciting as the frenzied recovery of a drone on top of an Alp, though
Cherry.
Brilliant, absolutely brilliant!
I hadn't seen this before. I wish I could write with such detail and description.
The "st I can't feel my fking legs" jumps out at me as I've been there many times.
All PH'er blogs seem to refer to effortless fast alpine crossings while mine are all about stting myself in long tight corners while passing tiny brick piers built once every 400 meters.
Most of the joy of these trips is not really knowing what's going on, just get out there and see what happens.
You have a much better grasp on your immediacy than I do but it's all the same in the end. Just get out and soak it up!
Have you not been out again since that thread?
And wheres the guitar?

Whilst I enjoyed the photos of the car show, I admit to being slightly disappointed that there were none of Stephanie.
I remember one of your previous jaunts where you took photos of the hotel receptionists in your car.
Yes. Good point. I remember one of your previous jaunts where you took photos of the hotel receptionists in your car.
Too late for this place now I'm leaving early in the morning but I'll try to get more...ahem staff involved in the future.

Aye, we're very much of the "plan as best we can, then see what happens". The Verona jaunt in 2005 was going swimmingly on the way down, until we got to Austria. Came off the autobahn, as planned, to go over the Dolomites to drop into Malcesine in time for an evening beer on Garda before the final short leg to Villafranca.
Climbing up past Obergurgl (love that name), through 6,000ft in elevation, got to the top to find the border closed! In May! fksocks! No way to make it to Italy now, so had to find a hotel in the valley below that was open in the closed season. The Hotel Stern in Langenfeld came up trumps (very much recommended BTW). But, hey, all part of the experience as you say.
Not been further than Bruges since 2013. Then again, negotiating its medieval streets to find the hotel in the city centre is a bloody adventure in itself!
I never did take any pics of the guitar on the 2013 trip, as I didn't think it would add any value to the write up. Never thought anyone would be interested
