Best smoker barges 1-5 large [Vol 13]
Discussion
Got the old man's x350 XJ again while the 745i goes in to see what's caused the never-ending oil leak to suddenly get noticeably worse-
After one night parked in that spot-
Work car park is a bloody mess!
I do like these XJ's but hopping straight from an e65 it is truly incredible how Jaguar could make the cabin of such a big car so small. Both front seats all the way back and I'd still comfortably have a lot more room in my old Boxster or the Clio Trophy.
Granted the miles are much lower in it (77k vs 140k, although the Jag has never had the gearbox serviced unlike the BMW) but the shifts are practically seamless compared with the lurching BMW.

"Laid those setts" is not a phrase I've ever encountered, but I understand and agree completely.
The Benz I most want is this (out of budget, not really a barge warning), with a touch of de-Pinterestation it'd be amazing.

You need to put number markers down to complete the crime scene. And tape it off. After one night parked in that spot-

What's got wheel trims, velour, and an optimistic price tag?
This Pug 605 with sensible miles.

Sadly being derv, thread will probably shun it. However as far as waftage goes, I suspect it's probably got that licked.

I've about saturated a thick bit of cardboard that's keeping my driveway mostly drip free. Prior to that the one suggestion I found that worked really well was going daft with washing up liquid and scrubbing like no tomorrow. Removed big patches of oil stains pretty well.
Now of course I borrow my dad's XJ to find it has 2 very sticky calipers to the point the brakes are cooking after driving along the dual carriageway. So it's in the garage instead of the BM.
What sacrifice must be made to the barge gods?!

If anyone wants to spend far too much time and money fixing that up to sell at a loss, then I'll be waiting with an open wallet.

Less Avensis than an LS430 though .
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/LEXUS-GS460-4-6-1urfe-V...
Out of budget, however I didn't know they did the same body with the 4.6L newer LS engine.
"Massive 350bhp as standard, and 8 speed semi auto box so 35 mpg easy to get"
That must be quite the sleeper, 2-3 gears and 60ish hp over a 430 version.
Rare thing. I think a only a dozen or so found their way onto our shores, no doubt heading straight into the hands of Lexus dealer principles and fleet managers. Unsurprising really: it was usurped by the far more interesting 450h that happens to be very nearly as quick, almost doubled the economy figures and was around four grand cheaper. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/LEXUS-GS460-4-6-1urfe-V...

I'd really like one as they head towards barge territory, but not that one.
The Outlander still remains out of thread budget but now I have it back from the garage I feel I may have been unduly harsh on it in my mini review in the last volume.
I forgot how serenely smooth it is wafting along on electric propulsion in traffic instead of listening to the constant gearchanging of a six speed auto mated to a car with a tiny powerband and little power to speak of in the first place.
Plus, in this heat having the car precondition and cool the car ready for the drive home is most welcome, the random battery failure light, less so.
Seems to have vanished by turning it off and on again, hopefully it’ll survive for the week until it goes back.

Yes please. A short write-up here would be ideal.
Here you go. I hope others don't mind. As I said, I had been looking at the Best Lease thread for a while, as well as looking for a 1-5 Barge. I'd seen the cheap deals on the new V90 but I'd missed the boat, so I just popped in to my local Volvo dealer and asked them what the best deals they had on the run out model V60 were. Since I wanted a vehicle ASAP, he had a handful of diesels that he could get hold of, but only one automatic petrol. It was 11 days from signing the paperwork to collecting the car.
I didn't really want black but I must admit it does look nice when clean and it's a reasonable spec: DAB, keyless entry/start, Bluetooth connectivity/phone/streaming, heated seats & screen (Winter Pack, which this car happened to have), nav, great stereo, auto headlamps/wiper, cruise, etc. It's an R-Design Nav model. I really like the look, but that's subject taste I suppose. Considering it's on 18s, it rides really, really well. It's a very relaxing drive.
Mine is the 6 speed geatronic, with the 4 cylinder T4 engine with 190bhp. It's not exactly characterful, but it has plenty of torque for squirting past slower traffic. The box shifts really smoothly.
The interior is rather nice. The seats are half leather, half alcantara and are extremely comfortable. In fact, possibly the best I've sat in. The leather wheel is lovely to hold and overall, it's a very pleasant place to sit.
The boot isn't the biggest, but it's plenty big enough for our 3 dogs or a Big Shop . Strangely, there are no hooks at the side for bags, but I've bought a £10 Halfords net to hold stuff down, which works fine.
I know it's a bit vulgar to talk money but since you're looking for a deal, I paid £1k up front, and I'm paying £280 a month. The paint is ~£700 option (a very nice metallic in the sun), and I think the Winter Pack is a similar amount. Looking online, I couldn't beat this deal.
