RE: Land Rover Defender | Frankfurt 2019

For the love of god...
IF YOU WANT THE OLD DEFENDER, BUY ONE.
It's not like they didn't make many of them, or there's a shortage of parts.
Please stop moaning and leave the rest of us to enjoy what appears to be a very capable, good looking utilitarian car that we can use without having to wear trousers that can be turned into shorts.

Why the 'panel' on the rear windows? Just for the roof rack options that most people probably won't use?
it is the C-Post trim - although on this image it appears to be missing....someone messed up when they did this render!Insert Father Ted cow meme in this space.
The coloured square seems to be fitted to all 110's.
If you download the brochure its listed as an option for the 90.

How were you so late to the thread btw? Were you mid recovery from the middle of a Welsh forest along with the 100,000 other Defender owning Farmers that were waiting to buy a separate chassised Defender 90? What did they think to the launch? Are they all cancelling their orders now? Assuming they're just going to stick with their short tail Range Rover that they use daily to winch themselves up the Welsh hillside with 15 sheep in the spray out passenger footwell.
More prosaic - snow blindness after Barry the Winch forgot to radio in the every-operative order to remove reflective high-viz and put on wraparounds before powering up all eight of his Chinese LED light bars. sin11 said:

Ahh, thanks. I’d configured a 110 which is why it wasn’t giving me an option to delete it. If you download the brochure its listed as an option for the 90.

Bad points (IMO)
Angry face (headlights).
No live axles.
Reminds me of the mini.
Not utilitarian enough.
Should have kept the wheelarch flares as soft rubber parts instead of flaring the bodywork.
Good points:
Altogether quite nice looking.
I like it, on the whole. Better looking than the competition (although I'm not sure what the competition is).

I am surprised to find so many positive comments about the looks to be honest. Putting aside all the business about heritage, farmers and all that guff, I think it looks like an absolute dog's dinner of a car. It's a horrendous looking thing.
Nah, styling is subjective but there are some checkpoints to measure if a design is well resolved even if you don't like it.It's not terrible, it's you.
Love it.
in terms of pricing, it leaves a lot of room for the Ineos Grenadier, which will be between £30 and 45k

Coolest car of the moment
As a die-hard Land Rover fan. No, not even remotely. In fact it probably is the least cool. As it is purely designed and built for posers and pretenders.
Maybe they should have called it the Land Rover Pretender
more than enough for some people on here if we can find a tree.....
I’m sure it will roll out the showrooms along with all the other Chelsea tractors. But as a genuine replacement for the old workhorse the original one was, that’s a big NO.
Farmers have moved on, the double cab pickups have well and truly taken over.
Land Rover did commercial versions of both the Discovery & the Freelander in the past, how often have seen one of them........

I like it, and am in the "have a D4, ready to change, don't like the D5 (and can't afford the G-Wagen)" camp, so definitely in the target market!
Had a good play with the configurator. Only thing I can't seem to do is get rid of the shiny silver trim front and back.. seems tricky to go full "stealth black".. although green with white roof and steelies is nice too..
I am in exactly the same place re replacing the D4 and have exactly the same question - why can't you get rid of the nasty shiny bits?Had a good play with the configurator. But that's all first world wingeing. I think it looks great; well done LR.

I don't like that random piece of plastic of body colored plastic on the windows. That really looks quite odd. The all glass rear window looks much better.
Yeah, what the fk is that all about......was that a result of take your child to work day or something?I would actually be in the market for a 90 depending on spec and what that bloody stupid panel is on the rear windows, but will likely wait until I see what Ford do with the rumour that they will do the new Bronco in a swb 3-dr version and in RHD.

Interesting car. I hope they sell them by the bucketload.
But to my eyes, it renders the current Disco pretty superfluous, which is a strange bit of product planning.
That's JLR all over though. Massive, massive overlap in and across the Jaguar and LR ranges. But to my eyes, it renders the current Disco pretty superfluous, which is a strange bit of product planning.

You can, black pack. it's just not available on all trim levels as an option. But that's all first world wingeing. I think it looks great; well done LR.
