Given that water and electricity famously don't mix well, I'm bemused by the design/location of the charging port...
A few leaves blocking the drain hole.. maybe add to that snow and ice in colder climates.

I expect they have run real world trials in all of these scenarios but it does look potentially probematic.
If you have a garage at home, it's easy to imagine the convenience of that charging port. No bending, no stooping. Probably the least effort in terms of grasping the handle, pivoting slightly, and plugging in.

But this charging point is in a woeful location for a car that has to live almost exclusively outdoors. Unless you live in some place like Spain or Arizona.

This may tell us something about the intended target audience.

Related point: Because Honda have designed the charging flap as a "doughnut hole" -- if you will -- in the bonnet, there is bonnet space (here in white) over which the charging cable will hover. And occasionally touch.

After a couple of years, see how many of these cars will have scratches and scrapes on the very front edge of the bonnet, the white-coloured space, there.

And IIRC the two smaller screens at both ends are for the rearview mirror cams -- XL1 style...

It lacks the swagger of the concept,
goodness, gracious it most certainly lacks that

and, therefore, this Honda is interesting solely as a product --- and not as something that's potentially for me

This will be as successful as the HRV! Right idea done badly. For not much more you can have a base Tesla 3

Well at least it doesn't seem to have been styled to look deliberately daft like the Leaf, Zoe and i3!

Most times I use my car I don't do over 100 miles so it possibly could work for me, except I'd have to throw the charging cable over my garden fence.

And that is part of the problem - most people living in cities with their own parking can afford to keep driving their Range Rovers, Porsches, Maseratis, etc.

Even assuming you had somewhere for charging, given the price it would take years to save the price premium over something like a Jazz!

I keep looking for something that will better Tesla and it's just not happening!

A standard range model 3 is "only" 7k more, 100kg heavier, and does 3 times the range! It's a different segment for sure, but just shows how much of a march tesla has on everyone else... And probably why their market cap is so massive!!

And how BMW really seemed to have dropped the ball on their i range - they should have a number of fully electric cars by now.

I liked the concept, and would have replaced the i3 maybe... But at 90 miles, I can't do the distance we can in the last generation i3... Which is also a lot lighter!

are you sure that price in accurate?

i'm getting £28,660.00 for the advance on the configurator (only £32K when you factor in fiance charges)

https://www.honda.co.uk/cars/new/honda-e/overview....

maybe i'm doing it wrong?
People complain that's its too expensive at £32K. Man points out that it costs £28,660.00 for the top spec model. People spend the next 10 hours complaining that its too expensive at £32K. Man gives up.
That's a ton of interest!! So £28.5k is better... But I think there's better deals on the way, SEAT Mii / Skoda Citygo will be the main competition...

I'm really interested in electric cars ( waiting for an aerial Atom type car with a motor on each wheel and a 100 mile range!!!!! )

This Honda is typical of what I feel is wrong with the modern western consumer society .

The comparison to the iphone is very apt - Its the latest/neatest/funky/on trend EV out there and if I buy one everybody will be impressed and that will give me a warm fuzzy feeling inside. . . . . where do I sign ??? ( my tongue is firmly in my cheek here).

I except that the Honda e will suit some people very well , but blimey its a very small niche and cynically I feel that this is just a marketing exercise to show that they are totally on board with the whole EV thing but don't want step on the toes of their many other global production models

EV's are definitely the future but this Honda will be seen like an original iphone is today in 5 years time , old tech , ability and unfashionable . Early adopters are either very brave , sheep like or both . But it is their money.
It's small, light for an EV with a small battery to use less natural resources. Jt's just another mini-car. What is it that you don't like about it?

Surely one for the driving and one for the media is enough.

I can see this blasting a lot of cars at the traffic lights for sure.

Still it’s priced for the middle class middle aged women with plenty of disposable income, Probably own a designer dog too.
It's priced to make a profit for Honda and I imagine they will sell it to anyone who passes a credit check.

Its heavier and has less range and performance than any of its competition?

mmm, this for 32k (or 28k?) or a tesla 3 for 38k?

i think this sums up the problem: the only electric car that really makes sense vs petrol remains the tesla.
It looks like tesla believes in EVs, while the others are just trying to prove EVs are pointless compared to their traditional ICE offering.
If true, it’s a frighteningly stupid strategy for a business...

Why are people still not getting it's not supposed to sell on range, or price, or practically.

It's supposed to sell on style, and tech. Hence the cute looks, and the screens/hdmi/full plug socket etc.

You may as well say "this Versace clutch bag is rubbish, can't get much in it, and no shoulder strap". You'd have somewhat missed the point.

I think this is the main issue - style or not!

And really, if style was right on point, it'd be a cross over surely ;-)
