Just for the record, I am perfectly ok with any legislation that bans the modification of emission equipment where fitted.
The legislation is already in place.

What gets 'bypassed, defeated, reduced in effectiveness of or rendered inoperative' by a remap? Tuning boxes bypass certain ECU readings, so they would count, but a remap doesn't.
Then the people who are offering to remap the ECU will have to show that the emissions are unchanged from those of an unmapped engine. If they can do that, no problem.
As this thread involves motorcycles this legal case is very relevant.
https://www.epa.gov/enforcement/harley-davidson-cl...
Those who sell the emissions defeat devices are being hammered by the EPA, and this includes those offering remap services.

Boo-fking-hoo, nobody cares about your noisy motorcycle except you.
I didn't realise there were so many boot-lickers on pistonheads. So moronic asking for further restrictions on personal freedom simply because a loud exhaust annoys you for 2 seconds of your day.

Oh do fk off, its not 2 seconds of the day, anyone who lives within a couple of miles of any A road will tell you each one drones on for 30 seconds or more and just as the tiny penis disappears into the distance another one with an even smaller knob (and thus an even louder exhaust) appears to take his place proving what a man he is.

But of course you couldn't give a st because its your right to be an anti social . The biggest irony of course being the number of the tts who wear earplugs while subjecting us to their racket.

I live within 2 miles of A road and I don't hear this that often.

Also never seen anyone wearing earplugs while driving.

Your life seems pretty tough which is a shame. If it is such a big problem for you then move. It's not something that I even think about.

So, depending upon what legislation actually becomes law, converting an internal combustion engined vehicle to electric could aslo be illegal?
No removing piston engines from classics?

what a moronic thing to say. That sort of 'logic' would have you say that anyone who drives a people carrier has a gaping fanny.

I live less than half a mile away from a busy motorway and yet the loud exhausts don't bother me, and that's with hypersensitive hearing. I can hear the motorway traffic even through my en-suite bathroom vent (if the TV and radio is off).

If it bothers you that much and you can't zone out from it, have something to drown out external noise - I keep music on all night as I'm a light sleeper too.

I hate those bellends too, but you can resolve that with volume limits and measuring stuff that seems suspect, you don't need to cause hassle for everyone who's happy to be sensible.

Surely the kit car industry would suffer the most.

PH definitely seems to be infiltrated by squads of local traffic/speed enforcers. If they're not posting their anti vehicle rhetoric on here they're out on the local roads with a high vis and speed gun.

Ironically, the only people they catch is their wife/ daughter/neighbour doing 38 in a 30.

I was going to say, certainly here in the South East modified cars are nowhere near as frequently seen or as outlandish as they were when I was a teenager 15 years ago. Given image is everything, I think younger drivers these days are attempting to PCP their way into a German car as fast as they can, rather than fawn over an old Saxo.

As people have mentioned, plenty of law and legislation exists - it just isn't enforced! Front tinted windows are the obvious one.

Demonstrating your gross ignorance, bikers wear earplugs due to wind noise, it has nothing to do with their exhausts.

Beat me too it; never let facts get in the way of a good rant/story.

The reality is much more boring: the sound from the exhaust projects behind, so whilst you can hear it, it’s the high frequencies from wind noise that the ear plugs are designed to help with. The design of helmet can make a big difference, but wind noise can reach >100dB at motorway speeds.

Personally I quite the sound of tranquility being broken by the sound of a decent engine, we get a spitfire or 2 over the house on most days in the summer for 5 minutes at a time, and It puts a smile on my face hearing a bike, or car for that matter, having its neck rung down the NSL in or out of the village. If it was all day that might be a bit much but then if traffic noise isn’t for you don’t live near an A road I guess?

I live near a racetrack and we get some glorious sounds coming from it. Some residents don't think so ofcourse and do everything they can to stop it.

Be wary of thinking the intention here is to scale up enforcement on noisy pipes or excessively chavved Corsas.

Sounds more like the Ministry of Transport want to start closing down any loopholes that could allow us to modify or switch off the OEM spec autopilots of the future.
