I used to have one of these....... well nearly...... mine was the Metro 1.1S :-) Never did figure out what S stood for.
Back in the good old days when I could fill the tank and still have change from £20 for a Mars bar and coke!!!
Excuse me, don't mean to burst your bubble but I think you'll find that your Metro 1.1S was not like one of these, whereas my MG Metro 1.3 was almost an exact replica (bar the bodywork, engine, transmission, interior, and probably being >400bhp down). If you look at the link above to the one on Race Cars Direct, it clearly states that it is a 'MG Metro 6R4' Back in the good old days when I could fill the tank and still have change from £20 for a Mars bar and coke!!!
Reckon your good old days were better than mine though, what with you being able to fill the tank - I used to try and scrabble together £5 with a mate of mine which gave us enough petrol for the week - the joys of being 17!

Just the one question. Why ?
The 6R4 wasn't a road car. Neither is this so I can't understand the point of making it unless it's for some sort of one make championship for millionaire rally fanboys.
Well, just like all the other group B cars it was available as a road car, it had to be for Homologation (200 examples)The 6R4 wasn't a road car. Neither is this so I can't understand the point of making it unless it's for some sort of one make championship for millionaire rally fanboys.
It is exactly for Millionaire fanboys

Obviously you don't know what you're talking about. The engine issues are well known but it was a good chassis - Didier Auriol won the French championship in '86 and later a Mr Gollop showed just what it was capable of in rallycross. The 6R4 was a donkey in its day and it will be a glorified donkey now
This MST one is ace and I can't believe there are so many "oh it's a pointless waste of money" boring-as-st whingers on here. My only concern is the exhaust note: for my generation, who saw Group B cars in period, the 6R4s, like Quattros, had a unique sound that made them instantly recognisable from miles away so I hope too much character isn't lost with a different noise.

They made 200 for homologation but unlike the RS 200 it wasn't type approved so wasn't legal for a road car from the factory. You could buy it as a kit to avoid that and I think a company bought 20 to convert to road registration IIRC.

Its real success was as a Clubman spec car. Great bit of kit
As with the Ford the 6R4 wasnt fully developed by the time GroupB ended so it never revealed its true potential to the casual fan which is a shame as its such a brilliant car

They're hideously ugly but made sense in the day and they were raced in period giving them credibility.
This is just an exercise in extracting money from the over monied.
I can only assume that your house must be pretty spartan then. Why have a nice sofa when you can sit on the floor? Why eat at a nice restaurant when you can just eat stew at home. Better still, taste is a bit of an indulgence, so we should just take vitamin and mineral pills instead. They're hideously ugly but made sense in the day and they were raced in period giving them credibility.

I'm not a massive 6R4 fan, but I think this is great. It will no doubt bring a lot of joy to its owners, which is more than enough reason for its existence.

At top level it was never the success it could have been, thanks mainly to the fact that its opposition all had turbo engines whose power rocketed every year . But to call it a donkey is both unfair and inaccurate - the 6R4 delighted everybody who saw and heard it in period. Except grumpy old you - you did see it yourself I assume ? It also won a lot of rallies in the UK , and the 700bhp turbo version driven by Will Gollop in Rally Cross was jaw dropping to watch . The 6R4 was a donkey in its day and it will be a glorified donkey now
Thats still mind bending now.
Want to watch Rallycross again, was always the best spectator motor sport I felt and you used to get that Grandstand/World of Sport lucky dip of all sorts of stuff on a Saturday, could be bloody horse racing, wrestling, banger racing or Rallycross, used to wait for Dickie Davis and Frank Bough to tell you what was on and when and then appear back for the good stuff.

One person's "hideously ugly", is another person's "brutally insane and effective perfection".They're hideously ugly but made sense in the day and they were raced in period giving them credibility.

I've borderline zero interest in "pretty" Pebble Beach Dusenbergs, Bugatti Atlantiques, and most form over function creations.
Gimme "ugly" motorsport homologation beauties like 6R4s, Sierra RS500s, IMSA Audi 90s, over anything pretty.
I'm also a sucker for a flared arch, or weird model specific feature. Subtle stuff like the wider track of a Mercedes 500E, unique mirrors on an E36 M3 or RS 964, and even the most humble of bonnet bulges on the Peugeot 205 automatics.
It takes all sorts at the end of the day

Is there any more info? How are they doing this? How much of the car will be new parts/newly engineered?
The original 6R4 engines were highly strung and unreliable for road cars (they were competition engines, after all) and I hear cost a huge amount in routine maintenance, so I presume these will feature an alternative. What about transmission, suspension, brakes, interior etc?
Read the report, £300,000 is the estimated cost, Audi 3L V6.....The original 6R4 engines were highly strung and unreliable for road cars (they were competition engines, after all) and I hear cost a huge amount in routine maintenance, so I presume these will feature an alternative. would also like Peugeot 205 T16 redone Restomod replica's smal very fast pocket rockets, with a 400+ hp 4cill or V6 RWD with tank in the front low down.
I have a 4wd 205 with T16 body running 600hp and Cossie drive train but WRC underpinnings. It’s a bit too much power to be honest. 600hp sounds indeed a bit much for such small light car , maybe you can tune it down a bit in a way you get les turbo-lag (no idea if you have such in your set up) and a more reliable set-up, also for the drive-train.
I guess 500-550hp is still 'fine' to get some thrills and getting a bit pushed back in the seat.
