RE: New Toyota GR Yaris revealed with 280hp
Discussion
We love our GR, got it March 21, think it cost us 33.5k on 0%, absolute bargain.
We own it now, 18k miles in and not a single issue, still worth 29-30k so we shall be buying the new one outright if we get an allocation, unless they offer 0% again, but no way I am paying 5-8% interest rates.

Out of interest, what’s the maximum you would pay for the new model, if as suggested, Toyota allocate only a few hundred to the UK? Maybe £43000 for the auto

Or Toyota might just through it all out the window, figure they will sell all 300 (or whatever) they plan to bring in anyway and whack the price up to £46k or something
Definitely this, although I would love to be proven wrong.Given that they're supposed to be selling 22% zero emissions cars this year in the UK, and they've only got 2 electric only cars (Mirai and bZ4X), Toyota won't can't bring in many GR Yaris', so they might as well make as much as they can on each one.
They've realised that many GR Yaris buyers aren't the typical Toyota buyer, and many have much more money - so they might as well make the most of it, just like Honda have with the FL5 Civic Type R.

Interesting. I've always bought my cars for cash and have enough spare cash sitting in accounts and easy access investments to buy 6 or 7 brand new GRY, outright, and it was the same when they originally came out in 2021. But I've never bought a new car in my life and prefer to always buy stuff that is a little bit older. So after the Covid (and easy finance) bounce, I've been waiting for normal depreciation to resume to get myself a GRY, for cash. £25k feels about right to me for a lightly used GRY.
Bragging about how much cash you have is just a tad wky mate - but good for youThe dash looks horrendous on that mat watson car vid
Good to see Toyota listening to customers and these suggestions being implemented in the refreshed Circuit pack car - most of which is functional rather than aesthetic.
A lowered seat and dash to improve visibility, a mis-shift warning (easy to do and to wreck the engine), an auto option with paddle shift, more rigidity, improved chassis, more options for the 4WD system, strengthened engine bits, better oil cooling, etc. I like the metallic grey as well.
For those connoisseurs of internal design - the new Lexus LBX is on the way, possibly. More power than the GR2 as well. Suprised that this didn't make its way into the Yaris but I suppose there is a pecking order at Toyota as well.

I can't see this one being the bargain that the gen 1 was.
I'm not sure i'd ever call £30k for a Yaris a "bargain". I considered the GR Yaris cheap back in 2020, considering the pace, focus and engineering commitment. Now it looks like an absolute steal.
But, horses for courses

Since there is no other car with that amount of engineering put in at that price point I would say that very well fits but obviously badge snobs are at the wrong place here.Real enthusiasts know what they get though. Even someone like Christian von Koenigsegg has bought one and that guy designs and builds multi-million dollar supercars for a living.
I think I might get my name down for one - having had autos for so long now there's no way I would go back to a manual as a daily driver which meant the MK1 was off the table immediately. The changes Toyota have made seem to address pretty much every minor niggle and all the major ones as well!
I've been looking at reviews and photos of the original, and yeah, I definitely prefer the interior in the old one by far, even if it is slightly compromised in areas. They even mention in the review that they use analogue dials in the pre-facelift over the crappy digital dials in lesser Yaris' but they appear to have reverted back to digital in the new one. Side by side, the new one looks gopping to me, definitely less special.
I think I'd be happy in a couple of years to get a pre-facelift for £20k, and perhaps lower the seats, and be done with it. Big saving and just better looking and the original at that.

Just watched a Carwow vid (in full!)
@08:04 Here’s a first? Chief engineer shows bits that broke on the old one, and’ve been upgraded on new one. Genius mktng / PR.
Sorry, really like the quirky dash design: a sort of racing-functionality-trumps-style vibe.
And the wheel / dash has lots of strange twiddly round thingys that stick out, and lots of little rectangular thingys that move when pushed – wassat all about??
And I’d prefer the autobox
