It's a shame there's so much bias in threads like this.
What do you want, Pistonheads or Google.com? Tony*T3 said:
Why will the R8 fail miserably to hold its value long term....

I think with the economy blah blah blah and the choice at the moment of quality depreciating metal, it is likely that you will be able to get in an R8 for £30K within two years max, but you will also be able to get into the Masser Gran Turismo for the same money, which for me trumps the pork, R8, and Aston.

How much does an NSX go for now?
Similar depreciation curve?
No. The NSX never enjoyed the widespread appreciation the R8 has.Similar depreciation curve?
The NSX was almost kept a secret and was very expensive new compared to the R8

Lots for sale just now, plus it's not really a 'keeper' is it
plus a lot of cars were bought as 'investments' and have left quite a few people with burnt fingers.
What, people actually thought a virtually mass produced car from Audi would appreciate? Seriously...plus a lot of cars were bought as 'investments' and have left quite a few people with burnt fingers.
I had an R8 for 6 months, after having an RS4 when they first came out. It was my only car, though wife has a people carrier.
I can honestly say that much as I wanted to really like it, the R8 didn't do it for me in the way that the RS4 did when I got it (even though it handled better), or even the Type R Integra I kept for 8 years before that! Audi took us on a trackday, and tbh I almost cancelled the order because it didn't "excite" me enough. I think it felt a bit ridiculous round town, while the limits were too high for the road but a bit soft on track, (and also a bit expensive if anyone else was to pile into it!)
I would have kept it for another 6 months, but could see where market was heading and bailed out without too much of a hit.
Right now, I wouldn't buy anything too "flash" as "mood" doesn't feel right, but if I was I'd take a sub-£100k 08 Gallardo coupe (esp SL) over a new R8. Having said that if you're looking for a "supercar" with cheap running costs, reliability and good dealer service, then you're much better off with an R8 than a 5 year old Gallardo or similar IMO.
I had absolutely no problem running it as a daily driver, but again I could see that it was being unnecessarily inflicted with the "low mileage" curse that stops people actually using cars to avoid a huge resale hit.
£40- £45k by end of the year for 07 with reasonable miles would be my guess

In what way? Have you owned both?V8 vantage kicks its ass...
On thing is for sure, the V8 Vantage kicks the R8's ass on depreciation...

Has anyone heard of one being used as a daily driver?
I know of an 07 car with over 35k on it, it's had a few R-Tronic issues (complete new gearbox fitted under warranty) but other than that its not missed a beat.I thought it a funny statement too.

Surely they wont fall below £40k ever?
They will. Audi are basically in the same League as BMW and Mercedes. They'll sell loads of them because people who are scared of Ferrari and Lamborghini will buy them in the same numbers that they buy Porsches... but Audi isn't Porsche, so ultimately they'll probably end up a bit below the values of similar age/milage 911s.CRA1G said:
