RE: Driven: BMW X6M
Discussion
I voted "1" purely for the dereliction of duty by the M division.
However, I'd give it a "10" for the ability to boil the pi55 of every yogurt-knitting lentilista in the developed world. God knows, that lot of hemp-chewers boil the collective pi55 of PH enough, so some reciprocation is very welcome.

The M division has definitely lost its kudos with this one - I wonder how many good people have left / will leave BMW because of senior management decisions like the X5M and X6M.
Sad to see a good brand killing itself.
didn't that begin the day you could buy an M Sport kit for your 316?Sad to see a good brand killing itself.

I do not like this as it is a complete 'cock mobile' !
However, it does stick 2 fingers up to the eco mentalists which is always good!
Why is that good? I know you're not the first person in this topic to say it so sorry for just picking on you. However, it does stick 2 fingers up to the eco mentalists which is always good!
Seems a bit of a pathetic thing to say though.

If someone wants a large 4x4, why not have a fast one?
Why is it that people expect that if someone wants a 4x4, it has to be a diesel defender or other "worthy" vehicle ?
I see no reason why someone can't want both a 4x4 and a fast car - so why not have both in the same vehicle?
Say I have a Scuderia or a GT3 in the garage, but in the weather we have now, I would take a 4x4 out to travel cross country or around the local lanes.
Where in the rules does it say that my 4x4 has to be some diesel tug-boat engined slug?
If I want a petrol engined 150mph 4x4, I will bloody well buy one.
People really, really don't get it.
I agree with this. But I still hate the X6. I like the G55, RR SC, Jeep SRT-8 and Cayenne Turbo though. Why is it that people expect that if someone wants a 4x4, it has to be a diesel defender or other "worthy" vehicle ?

I never understand the point of these cars, what is wrong with an estate if you need more space?
Why do you need to drive a car this big, other than increasing the probability of killing someone in a conventional size car in a crash? Hence why I have half a building site's worth of roll cage in my car, incase I get 2.4tonnes worth of metal coming at their grill height through my b pillar towards my head.
And who is gods name is going to spend £75k on this?
Yes BM, you can make this car, but I hope nobody buys it. Not exactly 'efficient dynamics', as the strap line goes.

What a criminal waste of the Earth's natural resources. I'm all for good performance, but sensible bhp and light weight is the way to go, yet the big manufacturers seem to be vying to produce ever more ridiculously massive and powerful "off roaders". And worst of all, you know it'll get stuck fast on a wet lawn, like all BMW/Merc/Porsche "off roaders".
If you want an "off roader", buy a Land/Range Rover turbodiesel, which at least will go anywhere you want in supreme comfort. This abomination will only be bought by the ostentatious rich in Surbiton so mum can take her little darlings on the school run and show their wealth off to all and sundry.
Torch it!

look, I've slated it, but it's far from the "last nail" for M Division. There's a new M5 on the way and there will be plenty of other proper M cars. This is just an aberration. I've decided now that I'm not offended by the X5 M to the same extent as the X6 M, because I can at least see a point to the X5 M - a practical 5 or 7 seat 4x4 with a massively powerful engine. Even then though, on the rare occasions that I'd rather take a 4x4 than something lower and rwd, the weather would be so bad that the power would not be particularly relevant.

That'll be the new M5 which is strongly rumoured to be a hybrid? Seriously though I agree. If this didn't have an "M" on it, it wouldn't be attracting anywhere near as much ire. People get dreadfully hung up about a badge. The fact BMW are putting an M badge on this doesn't make other M-badged cars any better or worse.

I love it.
I love the fact that they can build it. I love the fact that it exists.
We should respect everyones freedom to have one of these if they want one, without criticism IMO.
With over-regulation and the nanny state seemingly just around the corner, this car is a definitive "up yours" to the government and the eco-fascists.
For that reason alone I think it should be welcomed.
Well, I never thought along those lines but now you mention it I love the fact that they can build it. I love the fact that it exists.

I am sure cars like the X6M will soon be a thing of the past..
Talk about supporting the mentalists...

The idea that anyone wanting a 4x4 has to accept a car with diesel powered performance is just fascist nonsense.
Of course the X6M is a niche too far. Of course it will only appeal to a limited number of people and, of course, there are much more practical and sensible cars to own. But the same point could be made about a large number of other cars too....
What is the point of a Focus RS if a Focus diesel will do just as well and still be able to break speed limits?
What is the point of a Jaguar XFR when a 3 litre XF will do?
What is the point of a Boxster when an MX5 is a convertible too and can still break the speed limit?
What is the point of an X6M when a Land Rover will do?
You see what i was doing there? Pointing out the obvious. Your logic is flawed.
Maybe there is someone out there who wants a 155mph 4x4, who hates diesels, prefers a higher driving position and can afford to buy it. If that is the case, good for them I say and I hope they enjoy it.
