is it friday - oh goodie, no work tomorrow............We need the beard of McGee22 to give us the lowdown.
I know this is nothing special but I've got a real soft spot for big old Vauxhalls and I'm struggling not to go and have a look at this, even though I've got no need for it. Can't be many tidy low mile 3.2 versions left. I had a 2.2 CDX a few years ago as a shed and it was a lovely old thing to drive, so comfortable.

That said, an all round excellent day to day driver if it's still got the Alpina springs and shocks in good order; owners point to the 'better steering' of the straight six cars but in all honesty those who've had both Alpina's would choose the much bigger power V8 cars every time. There are also a merry band of followers who point to the fact the B10 3.3 was also available with a manual gearbox and not the Switch-Tronic only fitted to the V8 cars - which completely misses the point that to go fast in the manual you need to nail the gearchanges quite precisely whereas the V8 requires you only to mash the right hand pedal into the carpet and let it all happen without fuss and nonsense or even much fore-thought.
That particular car has bounced from auction to dealer to dealer with a price rise from c£11k through £16k to now £22k over a few years gathering another 14 miles along the way.

As with all E39's, check for rust on the sills, wheel arches and tailgate/bootlids and of course around the petrol filler flap.
Oh, and replace the cooling system before it next decides to evaporate/explode/melt/fall-needlessly-apart-due-to-penny-pinching-component-designers*
*delete as necessary every time an E39 cooling system fails roughly once a year.

On the way to spend thread money on a barge.
Unfortunately not to buy one, but collecting my S6 from 'the man' following a service.
When you're told you need to discuss costs and details in person, that's always a good sign right.. Right?

Of course.
No, not really, in fact, no, not at all.
Do let us know how bad your day becomes.
I say this tongue in cheek as a man who spent the end of last year and the beginning of this year pouring money out of my slush fund and into my mechanics pension fund at an alarming and sometimes eye-watering rate.

You will be needing to take your own economy size bottle of (wallet) lube, likely just paid for his family holiday to Barbados. Good luck. You're going to need it.Unfortunately not to buy one, but collecting my S6 from 'the man' following a service.

Turbines are nice. I would bin the locking bolts. A waste of time and always cause issues when you least want them
This.Chance of locker causing you ball-ache > chance of normal wheels getting pinched.
And they hardly prevent theft anyway.
I haven't bothered with locking wheel nuts since my Honda days ended in 2010 (the alloys were worth nearly £2k though)!
I stick with OEM BMW alloys now and use a stud conversion kit instead of bolts; makes life easier
And agree; Turbines are great alloys IMO

I always think this photo is great. Something about the wheel and tyre proportions is very Nascar and looks ace, IMO.I haven't bothered with locking wheel nuts since my Honda days ended in 2010 (the alloys were worth nearly £2k though)!

That IGM guy also has a Crown Majesta on the way at a few k's over thread (using the Friday pass here)... no threadist here would like my sporty Athlete so here's the full waft-mobile, and the most comfy/best specced Toyota/Lexus below the Century;
S180 vintage few dash cracks showing from the pics just like mine - but they all do that https://www.classiccarsforsale.co.uk/toyota/crown/...
Only needs a little bit of de-fun before it's 100% ready for a threadist Comes with swing air vents, green digital clock and a mini-disc player, fitted with a V8 too
I really don't want to hijack this wonderful thread with inappropriate Jap stuff that is above thread max, BUT, I have been on some of the rest of the internets and it is not a nice place! And there do appear to be a handful of really helpful chaps in here specifically for Lexus/Toyota stuff. I don't know if I can get my head around spending £10k+ on an LS600 and whilst these may not be better value I might be more comfortable at £8k. Since my 335d has now been found (burnt out) I need to do something... stud conversion kit instead of bolts
I had to change a wheel on my Lancia Integrale recently - was quite shocked to find bolts not studs/nuts - it made putting the wheel back on a complete PITA... Are stud conversions a generally available thing?
Didn't work, but the dragon-scaring rock they sold me for $499 at the end of the last lesson is working faultlessly.
Regarding locking wheel nuts/bolts; I had a damaged one on Mrs Swapped's 9-5. After a morning's effort all I'd managed to do was drill off the rotating collar and get angry.
So with absolutely no expectations of anything except being laughed at, I drove it to the nearest tyre place to home, (a national tyre place,) where the young man at the counter said something like, 'I'll fetch Bill'.
Bill was far more old-school than any of his colleagues, and had in his hand a looong extension bar, fitted with a tatty looking socket that appeared to be filled with copper. In his other hand was a large recoil-less hammer.
Ten seconds and some loud thuds later, the damaged bolt was off, Bill had a big smile on his face, and I was told the cost was nil so long as I booked my next MOT with them.
So I now take all my half price MOTs there (can't bring myself to trust them for anything oily), and can't quite figure out how that makes things quits for the valuable service rendered.
