I haven’t read the whole thread so might have missed something.

If this is his first offence a ban seems fair. Will inconvenience a ton and take away his hobby.

Can only speak from my own experience but when I had a big crash a few years ago with mates in the vehicle. It was the memory of that oh fk moment as I lost control and hit the granite mountain side head on. That still lives with me and slowed me down made me think about what I’m doing. Seeing my friends in hospital, having to apologise etc. Luckily no harm done in the end probably did me some good.

I imagine the experience will have a much bigger effect on him than a ban or prison.

On the other hand if he has done this before or does it again he becomes a danger to society who needs jail or some other form of punishment. As that’s wilfully being dangerous.

He crashed his car. Prisons not the place for him.
Yeah, there's a bit more to it than 'he crashed his car', isn't there?

He crashed his car because he was driving extremely dangerously, and crippled his girlfriend in the process.
The way the articles read the two of them are still together?

If the only victim in the incident doesn't want him to go to jail surely that has to be taken into account?

Where did you read she was crippled? I can see she has back pain and PTSD.

Will she be able to claim off his insurance for personal injury?

Hopefully the Cape Town M3 driver has learnt his lesson, though looks like his passenger was much luckier than the driver.

"while the driver of a BMW M3 lost his legs after crashing at 320km/h, his passenger survived the alleged illegal street race on the N1 with only a cut to his finger."

Without the limiter standard spec is about 175, so modified could be close to 190.

An F80 will only do 175? 340i felt like it'd do more than that.

I feel sorry for the regular road user being passed on both sides by those cars doing what looks like ~120mph more they are... before he crashes.

Totally and incredibly reckless. Sheer luck to 'walk' away from that crash, without legs that is...

With the restrictor raised (by option) it'll do 174. Would imagine with 450hp (Comp Pack) and fairly craggy, large frontal, top whack will be early 180s.

I'd say the bloke who lost his legs probably got a suitable punishment. No need for him to go to jail as he's already got an element of specific deterrence. He won't be running away from his past any time soon.

Again, I have no issues with speeding - just do it on a track like the rest of us responsible people.

Lost his legs, but doesn’t look like he learnt that much with the size of that sh*t eating grin he’s wearing on the hospital bed.

My mistake. I thought we were back on the original topic after Kid A's post.

With bike licences they limit the power initially - probably a good idea in this case if they ever let him back on the roads ? Presuming he is in a fit state to drive of course...
