Is that interior colour called "Time of the Month"?

It's not going to burn anyone's eyeballs out with the rather restrained colour combo but it looks to be in good condition. Is it reasonably priced? Maybe a little high, maybe a lot, looks nice though.

On the way to spend thread money on a barge.

Unfortunately not to buy one, but collecting my S6 from 'the man' following a service.

When you're told you need to discuss costs and details in person, that's always a good sign right.. Right?
That really doesn't sound promising hehe

Please keep us posted.
Taken some time to stop crying.

About £4k to fix the main issues

Which is nice.

If it makes you feel any better, my Discovery has just snapped its crank, and the warranty company are resisting paying out...

Thank you martynr et al. who said:
...probably starts squaling before the cable snaps. It also likes rear springs...
I saw similar diagnosis' online. I lower the passenger window so infrequently it'll either last forever, or snap immediately I try next, in x month's time.

I have owned multiple Saabs - snapped springs hold no mystery for me smile

I really don't want to hijack this wonderful thread with inappropriate Jap stuff that is above thread max, BUT, I have been on some of the rest of the internets and it is not a nice place! And there do appear to be a handful of really helpful chaps in here specifically for Lexus/Toyota stuff. I don't know if I can get my head around spending £10k+ on an LS600 and whilst these may not be better value I might be more comfortable at £8k. Since my 335d has now been found (burnt out) I need to do something...

Not a hijack, these Crown's can waft with the best of them - just they look and feel every bit the Japanese they are (which is no bad thing imo). If you're down Southampton way you're welcome to have a poke around mine.

Top one is a Crown Athlete - S200 gen, 3.5V6 is the same as my S180 and the running gear is all Lexus so parts/servicing is a doddle. That one benefits from a dash that doesn't crack but that's the only difference to mine smile In normal mode it'll waft around with a pleasing ride, gently shuffling gear and light steering - once sport mode is pressed the steering will weight up (no feel though) and the dampers stiffen up and do a great job of disguising the 1,675kgs kerb weight. The PWR gearbox mode will hold gears all the way to the redline with a pleasing V6 growl and also achieve a 0-62mph of 4.9seconds - enough to show anything south of a M/AMG that they're peasants wink Notable features - white yikes digital clock, vents that swing, cd/hdd, and rear stereo controls. Drawbacks - well it'll really only muster 28-32mpg in normal driving, the rear seats don't fold down and the cd player can't be changed - also I'd change the black wheels yuck

For both of them the tints are probably aftermarket but even from the factory you could go very dark so could be bought like that (especially the Athlete which was aimed at the younger market) that one also has a bodykit which will have been ordered from the factory as Toyota always offered at least 3
different styles. nerd

Majesta I covered before but it's much the same just longer, slightly slower (5.5 seconds to 62), green digital clock though, and has more toys (rear air con controls), blinds and of course a V8. That one has some Rays Homura wheels on which are four times the price over here than bought from Japan and again comes with a bodykit like the above is likely direct from Toyota.

As you can tell I adore this whole line of cars and wish they'd been sold over here after the 80's when Toyota took them and made them totally Japanese, honestly there's nothing that comes close to the complete package of value/reliability/pace/style for me - my one is getting close to thread max in terms of values over here.

Poverty spec, SE and the M52 528i (bloody good engine); at that price. Not a chance...

That's a £2000-£2500 car MAX every day of the week

Some great info there thumbup

As I said before; I'd have either in a heartbeat. I think they're stunning and proper waft busses...

Good comp for the BMW 7'er or Merc S Class IMO

I have always fancied the idea of driving around in a mechanically safe but ratty old Merc V8 - something like this and getting it running as a daily:

Am I mad?

What's the bork potential on the smaller sized BMW V8? Same as all the others?

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/234060955734

I really like the alloys and interior, but the towbar feels out of place.

No.

I also very much like the idea but frequent drives into London put the practicality of it out.

There's a series on Netflix where one of the characters has a an old Benz. It's an appealing idea.

You see poverty spec I see lovely velour...

But I don't know values of these things. Looks good around the arches though.

It would be a bit Withnail. The slab sides mean it would be easy to wrap?

I think I am more interested in the late B2 Passat estate in the background.

The Majesta's are pushing that level but I do think the Athlete's lose some of the waft-ness for sport, for the S170 through to the S200's each branch had different bodystyles too.
I also forgot to mention all Crown's from the S180's to later came with lights that would turn with the steering just like Citroen did all those decades ago smile

Apropos window regulators... I have noticed some noise coming from the driver's door of my S211 recently. I suspect that it is indicative of something soon to fail. What's the general labour time on addressing this?

Classics like this are actually perfect for London. Historic vehicles (currently anything built before 1 January 1981) is exempt from tax and MOT but crucially for London also Congestion Charge and ULEZ exempt.

Another couple of years and the availability of qualifying W126s will start to come into decent numbers. That's a proper commuter that you could daily (man maths on the fuel obvs)
