It's a nowhere brand, sadly. Not sexy enough for the thrusty salesman in his debadged 118d, not funky enough for a milf in her Mini Clubman and not enough value for money for the old duffer in his Kia. So who's going to buy one?

Personally I'd ditch Vauxhall and sell two brands - Opel and Chevy. Chevy is the stack-em high sell-em cheap good value motoring for the undemanding and comes with a good warranty, servicing inclusive etc.

Opel hankers towards a more Germanic premium brand with the sexier VX performance cars and the bigger segment stuff, all engineered towards the keener driver.

All IMHO.

Say what now? I think you'll find that's all it's about. Any thread with the word Vauxhall in it brings out the crazies for some reason but that has to be the ultimate.

Shifting volume is one thing, but how much profit are they making on each unit? How much of that business is discounted/fleet etc?

How is the wider business run? Does it soak up more cash than it needs too?

You can sell all the units you want, if you are not making much profit off that or not spending that profit well you will not stay afloat.

Sorry to say that it is ALL i repeat ALL about sales at VX ellesmere port.

They currently make the station wagon only, they did make the 5 door hatch but because at the time they couldnt make enough station wagons to supply the market they sent all of the tooling and production of the 5 door hatch to poland (biggest mistake they've ever made).

They have the capacity to make 3000 cars a week (there abouts) and current sales from what ive heard are around that per month. If they still had the hatch it likely wouldnt be as bad, again massive mistake by the ballbags that run the place.

They wont be switching to 4 on 4 off, simply put they are on 4 days and 4 nights production currently with down weeks inbetween. There is only a few ways it can go, the most likely is a plant else were in eurpoe shuts and we switch to 3 shifts again, or the plant shuts and work moves to europe.

I hear end of march is where the D-Day lies, and we will know where we stand then.

Thats not far from the strategy being planned from what I've read with more sports/high end/even higher performance vxr type models coming.

As my old boss said, 'it's all about the fking brand!' Whether it's iPods, mars bars or cars, you get the brand right and they will come.

i feel sorry for the people who work in the motor indurstry in this country the've been fked by over payed union boss's trying to justy fye there bigwages

we as a country have the skill and talent to produce some cracking cars but we price oursevles out of the market which means we've then got to make a cheaper product that can't compete with a german product
look at jaguar since ford sold it the xf is a blinding car the xj is a blinding car
just think where rover would be now if bmw did'nt buy it and rape it rover would be enjoying the new mini sales and all it's workers would still have jobs we as a country as a country are fking our selfs
i agree that workers should be protected but not by unions that are run by pricks trying to justifye the 300,000 salary

sorry probley a bit of topic but my 2pence worth

I grew up always preferring Vauxhall's offerings to Ford's, even though Dad only ever drove Cortinas/Sierras.

For the last 8-10 years though, that preference has swung the other way - I don't think Vauxhall have really produced anything (Monaro/VXR8 excepted, and they're Holdens after all!) that I've really been that keen on.

Astra and Corsa VXR are clearly very capable machines, but sit them next to the Focus ST/RS or the current Fiesta and I'd take the Ford every time.
VX220 Turbo?
Actually yes, I'd forgotten that one. I was taken out for a spin in rather rapid VXR220, and it was absolutely awesome.

But I'm a fat bd so probably couldn't live with it as my own car laugh

I've noticed you arent the first to say "bring in Opel" but you do all realise that the products sold as Opel are the same bar the badge as over here?

They USED to be seperate, but for some time now they are just the same as VX's are.

Unless its simply the badge that makes the difference?

They still make the hatchback there, its shared with poland.
