Good luck to him. Wouldn't be my choice, but it's his money and his lookout.

Peugeot do seem to enjoy strong brand loyalty. I know a few people on their fifth or sixth in succession. I personally lost interest when, as a then 306 XSi owner, I drove the 307 equivalent, but each to their own.

What a crap 'thank you' from the dealer.

Rather like the woman local to me who retired from a department store after over 50 years loyal service & was given a leaving gift of gift vouchers for use in the store that she had just retired from!

What a bunch of lazy, mealy mouthed, idle tosses her work mates were/are.

I'd have told them to shove it where the sun doesn't shine!!!

I must admit my initial reaction was "How the heck did a retired policeman have that kind of money to blow!?".

However, it could have been him doing the deals and his family financing them as previously mentioned in the thread, or maybe an inheritance or two, lottery win etc.

In main-dealer businesses, a large proportion of our retail is reliant on repeat customers who are loyal to the brand. If we had more customers like him, we wouldn't be scratching around for the next deal like we are.

If he likes the brand and feels comfortable driving them, why not?

So here we have a guy who has a shed load more money than most on here, and who can afford to spend £10k a year + a 4 yr old trade in for a new car.

(4 cars in the family, remember?)

He likes the cars, they're new, they come with 12 months tax, no MOT worries, probably come with 12 months insurance, and he's found a dealer who treats him well, unlike 95% of all dealers.

A nice, little "slow news day" article so PH posts it.

And what do the P(rick)H Massif do?

"He's bought a normal car, what an idiot" - Yes, like the other 95% of the UK population. People have different tastes, likes, dislikes. If you can't deal with that, it's your problem.
"Dealers taking him for a ride" - As you obviously know the exact trade in values, discounts given, freebies given, please show details.
"The loyalty bonus is a joke" - What do the fleet purchasers get over and on top of the discounts? Crate of cheap champagne? I'd rather have the break and use of the RCZ. The buyer is happy. End of.

And as to those calling him a gay, inbred, gimp just because of the above. Christ, what morons.

I actually hope this post is a plant by PH to get all the morons to post. And now PH has a nice list of loser names that can be banned to improve the quality of the PH forums by about 500%!

Excellent!
Well said. There are some on here that are too far up their own arses.

My ex bought a 206 from that same dealer several years ago (despite me urging her to buy a Puma down the road at Ford). She loved it - I thought it was a stbox and I thought the dealership was average.

Fair play to the fella though - I wouldn't want to be a copper in Harlow, not in a million years.

He's obviously happy and it is his money to do with as he pleases, maybe he doesn't drink, smoke or gamble so can spend that money on cars.

I'm not aligning myself to the (very) few nasty comments on here (like the one from SCR Racing)(other comments just seem a bit of fun banter to me) but I was very surprised a policeman could afford such extravagance AND then retire early as well! Certainly puts my hardworking carear into sharp relief.

Now the science bit...
Assuming he has 4 cars on the drive which he bough new at £25k each, and has traded in all previous cars after 3 years for 30% of the original value, this habit has so far cost his family over £850/month for the last 20 years.

not going to slate the guy or the dealership....im going straight to the top

i had a little incident last year in my bruv in laws A4 on our way to a family holiday

little bit like that video of the woman being pushed along the road by a truck...in fact EXACTLY the same

pics : http://www.goochy.plus.com/A4M5/

now, the plod on scene was amazed when he said, right lets clear the road and i hopped in, started it and drove to the side of the road lol...i pulled the wing out and we continued on to minehead for our holiday AND drove back to sunny beccles at the end of the week.

i email audi, saying how impressed i was with the build quality and reliability of their cars and was now considering buying one as my next car..... got a reply from the top man (or his PA anyway) saying good to hear we consider moving to their brand, glad we were all ok and to treat ourselves to a meal out at Audis expense.

so AUDI - nothing spent on the car, family meal vs PUG - 1/4 mil spent borrow a car and family spa day

you decide which manufacturer looks after its customers better

Just found this article:

Ok, so he has a bad taste in cars - but I think the comments relating to the guy himself are a tad harsh and unnecessary. Sounds like a pretty decent fella to me.

A tad harsh?

No mention of the outstanding work from Glob for single handedly paying his wages though. Odd. jester

Appears to be a decent guy who has focused his life somewhere and made a difference, so what if he buys what is considered a crap brand of car by many? He is happy with his choices and I am sure he doesn't loose a minute of sleep worrying what some keyboard warriors on PH think of him.

Peug dealer gave him something he wasn't expecting and he has felt special for a day or two, good for him.

Some of the posters in this thread should be ashamed of themselves, seriously!

Spent 250k? I'm guessing he either inherited some money as Police don't pay THAT well.
.
Clearly he part exchanged or sold his old cars rather than throwing them in a skip, and clearly they're including his families purchases (such as his daughter) which he no doubt got involved in, but quite likely didn't fund.

So has he spent £250K? Of course not, nothing like.

I doubt that he spent £250k on cars over the 20 years. He bought cars with a Retail Value of £250k, probably spent well under half that.
However, his money,his choice.

I find it astonishing that someone in retirement (early retirement by the looks of it), from a public sector position, can afford to burn that kind of cash.
That was my surprise too, it shows how over funded the public sector is.
Oh FFS.

You really think he was just throwing each car away every time?

And that they were all for him and paid for by him?
