I know very little about old landies (other than needing one in my life)
What is this specific model? Series 2?
Also as a rough guide where does this stand you? You mention £400 and 15 hours?
I am in love with it
Series 3 short wheelbase(SWB in landroverese) with a soft top. What is this specific model? Series 2?

If the uncalculated figure is less than £4k I'll be impressed; the £400 is the (ebay impulse?)purchase price, and it took 15 hours to dismantle it to fit the half-chassis replacing the rotten bit. Not as shiny example picked because it's on my ebay watch list; other landrovers are available.

The fact that it has a galvernised chassie rather than a galvanised chassis puts me off a lot. Before anyone pipes up with the old trope, I know there are people with severe dyslexia; many of my friends fall into this category. If you have a problem, get someone to proofread it; that's what they do.

Think of it as a galvanised chassis with £1000 of ropey landrover wrapped around it; that's the basis I bought mine on, despite the illiteracy of the advertiser. Before anyone pipes up with the old trope, I know there are people with severe dyslexia; many of my friends fall into this category. I've just bought another Series Landy this afternoon, this time a Series IIa truck cab. Petrol this time, much much more civilised than the diesel. It's a real survivor, one previous owner and only 70,000 miles from new. Can't wait to go and pick it up and show it off with my Disco V8
Here's a couple of pics:

I bought a 1976 Series III SWB for 1500 on eBay 18 months ago. Apart from a cracked exhaust manifold (replaced with a new one) it has needed very little maintenance. It now needs it brake shoes adjusting. Security: non existent and I usually don't even lock it. Driving it - fun once you get used to the steering and brakes and clonky gear change (no synchro 1/2 on yours). If no overdrive fitted, get one on eBay and fit it - makes the Landy usable for short trips on motorways (noisy!).
If worried about thievery, maybe take the rotor arm off to immobilise the thing? 200 miles would be a long and tiring drive, esp if without overdrive, but you could allow yourself 4 hours plus some breaks. My Landy has a radius of operation of about 10 miles from my house, although I did once drive it 80 miles to Solihull and 80 miles back.
Values, I am not sure, as have not looked lately, but prob a chunk north of 5K for a good 2. 3s still cheaper.

I loved my SII swb Safari Top 2 1/4 it was the old Dunsfold fire tender for much of its life, it had a multitude of coats of paint, affectionately known as Dulux. I restored it in the 90's in French Blue, looked great.
931 ALR I kept the plate for a few years though. It went with on an old style non transferable plate. I wonder where it is now?

After it was restored
