No, of course not. I wouldn't expect it to be able to compete in terms of off-roading ability against that competition. It doesn't need to be able to.

All it lacks are aftermarket recaros. I wonder if any of the renaultsport seats are a direct fit?
Also, wouldnt mind a renaultsport engine in it. From the megane 265 perhaps?

So that'll be a part-time haldex based 4WD system?

i have no idea.. i found these pics on a Russian site.. no idea what was written by them

I think its an electromagnetic lock of some sort.

in lock mode it allows zero slip, in auto mode it behaves as an open diff and in 2wd mode.. well.. its 2wd

Looks a decent size boot.

Would consider a new one for a work car if it came basic with Air con and phone prep. I need those, don't need anything else.

They look very good in the flesh, and look a decent size, certainly comparable to a Hyundai iX35. They do not look cheap, to me anyway. They have good road presence, and considering they are selling plenty over here, they must be doing something right.

I forgot to mention something. A phenomenon that happened in all EU countries. If you buy this car, be prepared to do some promoting work, because this car will turn more heads than a Ferrari, and people will question you about the car with every occasion (in traffic, in parking lots). At least before it will become a common site. It looks very good in the metal and people will be curious if it's a proper car, which it is. The first owners will be terrorized. I'm serious.

it seems that with decent tyres and a total disregard for the car's well being/lack of mechanical sympathy, they can do quite well off road: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DHVbL9vrEw8

It doesn't look like a Haldex unit to me, although I suppose it might be. As for whether it's part-time - I'd hope so, it makes much more sense on this type of vehicle, really.

Reckon it looks like the X-Trails AWD system. Nothing too fancy on the axle diffs but ability to control the torque split front/rear.

Reading on Wiki it seems there's an optional ASR traction system that will brake individual wheels in 4x4 mode. This in principle sounds akin to the TCS system you'll find on a Land Rover Freelander and it basically simulates locking diffs. This is a brilliant feature!!!! And essential to make it good off road. I wonder if UK models have it, or what spec/money you need to spend to get it? Without this feature it will be far less able off road.

Nice one Dacia thumbup

ASR is a £350 option in the UK.

ETA: There's a configurator on their website with all this on.
