the most beautiful modern car today
Discussion
DB9 or Vantage.
Quick mention for the 911 still elegant though bloated, looks like the hot girl from sixth form who is now packing timber. A very pretty face there, in the middle.
Agree with previous posters, lots of striking even elegant cars about, but few are beautiful or pretty.
Sadly most are just blobs or worse angry bird characters, a sad indictment of our steroidal, combatal macho culture.
My theory is fifties and early sixties designs were so pretty and gentile because of a reaction to WWII.
However design seemed to be fine in the nineties. Regulations and interior space improvements also culpable.

What about the z4 coupe? Particularity the M coupe with its twin exhausts. I'm biased as I own a standard 3.0si but for little more than £10k and with very reasonable running costs I can't think of many prettier cars? I've certainly only had positive comments about mine (prepared for a barrage of negativity now).
Modern cars are also generally spoiled by fussy additions - vents, creases, slashes, lights etc.
The most beautiful cars (to me) show a purity of line, with only minor styling accents, if any.
And please make the gopping goldfish mouth front end treatment go away - it looks as bad on cars as on wanna-be celebs!

Definitely this, and in this colour, with these wheels. I understand the comments that it's "too big" but, somehow, the lines just wouldn't work so well if it was any smaller. I also don't think this shape will ever date - the lines have an absolutely classic simplicity and, just like the E-Type, I reckon it will still appear in polls like this in thirty years time. If a tie-break is needed, perhaps engine-note should be added to the comparison? ian996 said:

Also agree with the DB9, such a stunning design.
911 is a tricky one for me even though I love them. I think pick of the modern bunch would be a 997 Carrera coupe. In the right colour combo etc it's a pretty car in my eyes. It's also managed to avoid the 'angry face' which seems to have befallen most modern cars.
Angry isn't pretty.

The aggressive debate is an interesting one.
'Face' wise the Maserati GT and especially Alfa 159/Brera have pretty annoyed looking front ends but consistently do well in the beauty stakes.
Perhaps it's more to do with how the enthusiast feels about the brand as a whole, because 'angry' German brands to far less well. I think the GTS walks the fine line between angry and beauty quite well...certainly well enough to be up near the top.
I think curvy and less intimidating designs are more beautiful as long as they don't go too far into the 'cute' territory
I still think the 8C and original DB9 tread the line best, with the 991 and Vantage close behind.
I'd like a bit more edge/detail though so I'm going to go with a DBS.

These always always catch my eye - the nose/headlamps on the more recent models is so stunning - being aggressive and mean yet svelte.Quickmoose said:

You are correct that an eagle can look equally beautiful as a budgie or baby rabbit - more majestic, so i suppose the angry look could be good in some cases. The 911 has always avoided such angry nonsense though, hence timeless.'Face' wise the Maserati GT and especially Alfa 159/Brera have pretty annoyed looking front ends but consistently do well in the beauty stakes.

Eye of the beholder I suppose. The shape from every angle is gorgeous for me. Super sleek. In fact I'm struggling to think of any German car that could truly be called beautiful but maybe that should be a thread on its own.
