Leasing ALWAYS makes sense...

What is with this idea that the only reason anyone would want a nice car is because of 'ego'? It seems a recurring theme.
Granted its not always ego but with a lot of people it seems to be an I'm better than you attitude. It's opinion, also to the poster who said he'd rather have all the toys, what toys are they? My car has power steering, abs, electric windows, air conditioning, no TCS or stm crap to put up with, and comfortable seats. I don't need to pay 250 a month for a badge and an engine that sounds like a John Deere tractor. HedgeyGedgey said:
This is my point tho, how many people want others to know they have a new car? I don't see many brand new cars that have private plates on. Why does car sales rocket in March and September? The new reg comes out. Work it out yourself
Some do, some don't. My car was a year old when I bought it and my plate went on within the same week. It could now be anything up to 7 years old as thats when the model first came out. Only I know how old it is, only a geek of the marque could narrow it down to less than 3 years old and only I care. Obviously some people are all ego and obsessed with pointless crap like how old everyone thinks the car they drive is but its far from everyone. Some people just buy things because they personally want them without any consideration as to what others may think. Some of these people will buy brand new, some will lease, some will buy nearly new, others will buy classics and some will buy £500 cars and be really happy.
A lot of people buy a car because they like what it does and how it does it. Not for what others think.

I'm not saying every single car sold in those months is for this reason. This is the difference between being a "petrolhead" and being a regular Joe off the streetSome people just buy things because they personally want them without any consideration as to what others may think. You said:'Always comes back to wanting people to know you've got a newer car'
'Always' would imply 'Every single car'.

Coming from me (I'm 19) think a new corsa on finance means you'very got more money than someone who owns an older car bought outright. It's the modern world
It's not the modern world, it's your perception. Why would the person with the old car not be saving up for a round-the-world-trip ? Might be their dream holiday and they're putting all their spare cash into it. Might be a man saving up to buy a fantastic engagement ring for his girlfriend . . . or paying for his grandma's nursing home care . . .We don't all put all of our spare cash into a car. And this isn't even about leasing now, it's just plain old stupidity !

Seeing as I'm in PistonHeads firing range at the moment and the emails are doing my nut in. Leasing makes sense if you spend a lot time of time in your car travelling, you're a mother who wants a safe car for your children, if it's financially cheaper to lease/finance that specific car. I have said that the majority of cars are brought on finance, this is 80% factually. Im young and wise and it doesn't take a genuis to know (from personal experience) that this is for a reason at least for my age group, the amount of people round this way that want people to look at theme in their new car. Anyway I'm off out to get drunk with the lads, peace out mofo's
I presume the 250/month for the R doesn't include the deposit, so its probably more in reality.
You could probably buy a GTI or Focus ST with a remap that would be near as makes no difference as quick for about 5k. Probably the same as your deposit plus 6 or 9 months payments. In 2 or 3 years you'd probably get back 3k or so too.
No doubt someone will now come along and say that something that old is a total banger and will fall apart/break down every week, and cost thousands to run. This, although nonsense, will justify the lease of a new car.
Clearly, for most cars these days, if you want a NEW car every few years, leasing is better. But don't fool yourself its the cheapest way of getting from A to B in your everyday life. The reality is no-one needs a new car every few years, its just the industry has designed a financial product to shift loads of new metal and many people now actually believe (or kid themselves) its the cheapest way to get about.
Each to their own though, everyone decides how to spend their own money.

It's not stupidity and it is to do with leasing because it's an image thing, it's the new generation of people. I know people that have leased brand new expensive cars but still live with their parents and fill up with the cheapest petrol they can find despite being advised to be using high octane fuel. It's to do with the image they create, and how other people see them. An expensive engagement ring or a 2 bedroom flat isn't going to impress people as much as a brand new 66 plate Beemer or Audi
Wise, did you say HedgeyGedgey said:

Not sure what sort of strange world you live inI got a new car a few weeks ago, I don't think for one second anyone gives a st that the car is new or even more bizarrely is 'impressed'. Why would anyone be impressed at me paying a couple of hundred a month?! How very bizarre.

Wise, did you say However, this is a very limited demographic and in no way reflects the reason why the majority of people lease cars.

I think your post says more about your own frustrations and image issues than it says about the majority of people leasing.ITP said:

I don't really want a 10 year old car with 100k on it and the generally worn out feeling that the suspension and steering will probably have or the maintenance that would be required on such a car.
